Assistant Director, Sports Information

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Responsible for sports-related information and communication in web, social media, broadcast media, print, and publications for all sports; serving as liaison with head coaches, sponsor representatives, alumni, community outreach, and print/media communications with the Athletic Department.

Level Scope:

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self-development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.

Essential Functions:

95% of Time the Assistant Director, Sports Information must:

  • Write and publish weekly press releases, game stories, feature articles, media guides, and game programs.
  • Maintain and update the athletic department website with game results, statistics, team and athlete profiles, and other relevant content for assigned sports.
  • Coordinate media relations, including interviews, correspondence, and information sharing with media outlets, opponents, and the conference office.
  • Plan and manage social and digital media strategies for assigned sports; monitor content and analyze performance.
  • Assist with content ideation and creation, including creative and digital assets.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for assigned sports, collaborating with coaching staff and departments on messaging and external communications.
  • Organize and coordinate event management and sponsor/advertiser recognition at home events.
  • Facilitate the collection, reporting, and archiving of statistics and photos.
  • Lead external planning groups when appropriate based on project scope.

5% of Time the Assistant Director, Sports Information will:

Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask, work effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem-solving Skills involving groups and/or events
  • Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues
  • Good oral and written communication
  • Basic knowledge and experience of journalism or media/public relations

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1+ year working at a Division I FBS institution as a full-time staff member
  • Prior experience, either as a full-time staff member, graduate assistant or student worker, working with a Division I volleyball or softball program    
  • Experience in managing a team's social media accounts and executing a defined strategy

Physical Demands:

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. General office work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is $51,000. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):

  • 12 paid holidays AND the University is closed between Christmas and New Year's (requires use of 3 vacation days)
