Job description

Who is a Broadcast Specialist I at SMT?

Do you have experience working behind the scenes in broadcast environments? Does the idea of traveling the U.S. and the world supporting sporting events sound like a dream job? Do you love solving problems and exceeding clients’ expectations? If you answered yes to these questions, we’ve got just the opportunity for you as a Broadcast Specialist I!


As a Broadcast Specialist I, you will be a key member of Video Production Services (VPS) team, providing entry level technical assistance and operation at events focusing on LED display and television graphics production. Your gameplan includes being responsible for equipment preparation, maintenance, inventory and operation associated with the delivery of SMT Video Production Services. Your key plays will also include testing, configuration, troubleshooting, setup and operation, user acceptance testing, setup and breakdown of associated hardware.


Travel is a big component of your role, traveling 120-150 days a year, to sporting events both domestically and internationally. This position is required to report to the Jacksonville FL office when not traveling


What is Your Daily Impact at SMT?

Your day to day will vary whether in the office or at on-site at events, but your key impact will include:

  • On-site technical and operational assistance for hardware and software setup focusing on video display production and television graphics – set up, maintain, and operate equipment in live broadcast environment.
  • Assist in SMT pre-event preparation for broadcast and video display equipment and services to make sure all systems meet event requirements.
  • Focus on all VPS equipment and becomes familiar with its function, the set up and operation, and troubleshooting of.
  • Successfully lead VPS service portion of SMT events utilizing 1-2 VPS services.
  • Assist in equipment preparation and maintenance.
  • Provide basic technical training and support for Event Project Managers as it relates to VPS services and equipment.
  • Help maintain organization and cleanliness in the VPS department and associated hardware storage.
  • Load and unload equipment to/from VPS storage.


What Do You Bring to SMT?

Here are some of the key skills and experiences we are looking for in our future game-changing teammate:

  • BS/BA degree from an accredited institution, focus in Television, Broadcasting, IT, Communication preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-year technical experience as it relates to hardware; networking of video signals preferred.
  • Familiar with operational workflow of Video Production Switchers, OB truck and TV environment preferred.
  • Availability for International and Domestic Travel of 120-150 days required, often up to 30 days consecutively.
  • Proficient in TVI + CG operation within first year of employment.
  • Entry-level computer skills: MS Office familiarity, PC Networking familiarity including TCP/IP & CAT5 crimping.
  • Must be able to lift, move, and carry up to 75Lbs.
  • Strong organizational & interpersonal Skills.
  • Must be a team player, work well with others and also work well on independent projects.
  • Must be a self-starter and take initiative.
