What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Software Engineer, you generally need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as Java, Python, or C++), algorithms, and data structures, often supported by a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, basic software development tools, and sometimes relevant certifications (such as AWS Certified Developer or Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals) is helpful. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and a willingness to learn make candidates stand out in this position. These skills and qualities are crucial for writing effective code, collaborating with teams, and adapting to evolving project requirements.

Entry-level software developers typically start by working on smaller features, bug fixes, or assisting with code maintenance under the supervision of more experienced team members. You'll often participate in code reviews, write unit tests, and gradually take on more complex assignments as you build your skills. Collaboration is common, so expect to work closely with other developers, testers, and sometimes product managers. Over time, you'll gain exposure to the full software development lifecycle and have opportunities to contribute to larger projects.

Job description

At Thryv, we are a team that lives by teamwork. However, it’s not the work that drives us, it’s the respect, trust, and care for each other that defines us as a team. We’re a diverse community of trendsetters who do our best work in a fun, relaxed environment. Technology never stops evolving and neither do we. We’re always looking for the best and brightest team players to join us.

About the position:

If you have 1–2 years of outbound sales experience and want to break into software account management, this program is built for you.

We’re launching a 6Month Software Acceleration Program designed to identify, develop, and evaluate highpotential talent for our Software Account Management (SAM) team. This is your chance to transition from prospecting to really closing roles. It is designed to prepare and evaluate talent for placement into our Software Account Representative (SAR) or Senior SAR roles.

This is a program role with full benefits and a clear outcome at the end of six months:

  • Top performers will advance directly into a Software Account Representative (SAR) role
  • Exceptional performers may be considered for Senior Software Account Representative (Sr SAR) placement
  • Those who do not meet performance expectations may conclude participation at the end of the program

If you want a true pathway into Software Account Management, you will want to take a close look at this role.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you’ll work in a high energy, outbound sales environment built to demonstrate your existing outbound selling skills while accelerating your ability to advance deals, influence buying decisions, and drive SaaS revenue.

  • Drive outbound outreach and actively create qualified sales opportunities
  • Deliver compelling, value-driven messaging to SMB and mid-market prospects
  • Execute structured call, email, and LinkedIn engagement strategies
  • Partner closely with SAM leaders and sales partners to refine conversion tactics
  • Strengthen your SaaS sales acumen through ongoing coaching, training, and hands-on platform experience
  • Demonstrate consistent performance within a structured evaluation framework

You’ll gain exposure to real selling, not just booking meetings—setting you up for success as you transition into the SAM family.

Who Thrives Here

This program is ideal for candidates who have:

  • 1–2 years of outbound sales experience (SaaS preferred but not required)
  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience
  • Confidence engaging with decision makers across phone, email, and social channels.
  • Ability to manage high volume, handle objections, and build pipeline.
  • Desire to strengthen full-cycle SaaS sales skills in a closing role
  • Comfort working within structured goals, metrics, and performance expectations
  • A growth mindset and strong coachability
  • Willingness and ability to meet clients face-to-face as you grow your network and unleash sales success
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment screening process, as required.
  • Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses, as needed.

What's in It for You

This role is intentionally designed as a launchpad into Software Account Management, offering:

  • A 6month accelerated program focused on outbound software selling
  • Competitive compensation package with performance-based incentives
  • Handson exposure to our Software Account Management (SAM) teams and full sales cycle
  • Real opportunity to move into SAR or Sr SAR based on performance following 6-months’ performance
  • Skillbuilding that positions you for longterm career growth in software sales

This isn’t just another outbound role—it’s a career advancement program.

Program Outcomes

At the end of the 6-month program:

High performers → Software Account Representative (SAR)
Top performers → Considered for Senior SAR
Non-performers → Program completion without transition. You control your trajectory.

Why This Program Is Different

  • Clear pathway into fullcycle software sales
  • Competitive compensation package with performance - based incentives
  • Handson mentorship and professional development
  • A modern sales organization with transparent career progression

This creates a fair, performancebased path and allows you to take ownership of your growth which doesn’t end with the Sr SAR role:

Software Account Management (SAM) Family:

Software Account Representative “SAR”

Sr Software Account Representative “Sr SAR”

Software Account Executive “SAE”

Sr Software Account Executive “Sr SAE”

Key Software Account Executive “Key SAE”
