Job Description

The Test Engineer is responsible for operating and supporting dynamometer test cellsfor propulsion and driveline systems from initial setup to test report completion.This includes working with dynamometer control software tointegratecustomer test requests,performing testequipment calibrations, and executing troubleshooting efforts on test cell equipment. This role requires the ability to successfully manage tasks and assignments in multiple areas. Initiative and ownership of responsibilities are critical to the success of this individual. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Integratingcustomer test requests intoourin-house developeddynamometer control software-this includes configuring channel setups and writing automated test scripts among many other items 

  • Translatingdocuments and conversationsfromcustomersto fullyfunctionaldynamometer test 

  • Troubleshootingoftesting systemsandcustomerproduct issues 

  • Collaboratingwith interdisciplinary teams tocreate concepts and deliverablesusedto efficiently complete customer test requests and internalprojects 

  • Setting up small scale testing equipment including analog sensors,electrical instruments, cooling systems,and other customer driven requirements 

  • Electrical wiringofinternal and external sensors to ourdata acquisition systemand our industrial drive systems 

  • Calibratingtesting equipment such as torque meters, pressure sensors, andflow meters 

  • Writing test reportsfor customersbased on testresults 

  • Test engineers will not be responsible for any opinions or interpretations ofourcustomer data 

  • Assist in supporting the UTAC culture and values (Integrity, Expertise, and Innovation) 

  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

Education and Skill Requirements: 

  • If applicable: Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably mechanical or electrical)

  • Practical experience and involvement with projects 

  • Working knowledge of automotive propulsion and driveline systems 

  • Fluency in the English language is required 

  • Strong problem solving, strategic thinking, and analytical skills required 

  • Ability to function within a team, working cooperatively toward team and individual goals 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with all stakeholders 

  • Strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills 

  • Strong attention to detail required 

  • Organize and maintain efficiency of personal work area 

  • Required on-site work as needed, per our Remote Work Policy 

  • Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job 

  • Accept instructions and tasks in a positive manner, treating all co-workers with dignity and respect 

  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications and the ability to become proficient in any systems that we use (Concur, Kronos, etc.) 

  • A valid driver's license required for travel to customer sites, picking up parts, etc. 

  • Exceptional work ethic and positive attitude required 

  • Self-starter, who can multi-task and possess strong communication skills 

  • Able to function as part of a team, with members of varying job levels, and work cooperatively toward team goals 

  • Consistently adhere to, and support all UTAC policies, procedures, and safety regulations. 

  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for traveling between multiple work sites as needed 

  • Remote work policy is not offered for this position.    

Physical Requirements: 

  • Exposure to industry accepted chemicals and noise 

  • Flexibility to support test activity at off-site locations and outside of traditional working hours 

  • Regularly required to stand, reach, bend and move about the facility 

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and 75 lbs. assisted 

  • Requirements include, but are not limited to stand, walk, sit, twist, bend, lift, see, speak, hear 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer 

  • Able to stand for up to 8 hours 

  • Occasional travel required (locally, nationally, internationally)
