Job description

JOB SUMMARY: The Software Test Engineer (Senior) will support NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in the verification and validation of Flight Software (FSW) for the DAVINCI Descent Sphere (DS). The position supports planning, development, execution, and documentation of software testing activities to ensure flight software satisfies mission and system requirements. The engineer will work closely with flight software developers, systems engineers, and integration teams to support mission readiness in accordance with NASA software engineering standards. Location: Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), Greenbelt, MD. This position will primarily be based on-site in the DS FSW Lab, Building 23.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Flight Software Verification & Validation

  • Support verification and validation activities for Flight Software development.
  • Participate in unit, integration, and system-level testing of incremental FSW builds.
  • Execute software tests in accordance with approved plans and procedures.
  • Identify, document, and assist in resolving software defects and anomalies.

Test Procedure Development & Execution

  • Develop and maintain software test procedures and test cases.
  • Execute test procedures within the DS FSW laboratory environment.
  • Collect, document, and maintain objective test evidence.
  • Verify defect corrections through regression and re-test activities.

Requirements Verification & Documentation

  • Assist in developing and maintaining Requirements-to-Test Traceability Matrices (RTTM).
  • Prepare test reports, test summaries, and verification documentation.
  • Support software verification reviews and lifecycle documentation.

Configuration & Process Compliance

  • Follow project Configuration Management processes for software test artifacts.
  • Perform work in accordance with NPR 7150.2 and applicable GSFC software engineering processes.
  • Support technical issue tracking and communicate testing status to project leadership.

Laboratory Support

  • Support operation and readiness of the DS Flight Software laboratory.
  • Assist with equipment inventory, configuration, and general laboratory organization.
  • Support verification that laboratory equipment certifications and calibration records remain current.

Reporting Requirements

  • Provide regular status updates on assigned testing activities.
  • Document test execution results, software anomalies, and verification progress.
  • Contribute to technical reports and project documentation as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Technical Skills

  • Experience supporting software verification and validation activities.
  • Experience developing and executing software test procedures.
  • Familiarity with requirements-based testing and requirements traceability.
  • Experience documenting software test results and defect reports.
  • Working knowledge of software configuration management practices.
  • Experience supporting software integration and system testing.
  • Understanding of software engineering principles and software development life-cycle processes.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: 3-7 years of experience supporting software testing, software verification and validation, or related software engineering activities.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to pass NASA badging and onboarding requirements in accordance with applicable federal security policies.
