About Us
The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 25 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.
Location
This role is based at the Information Technology Services (ITS) office in Athens, Georgia, located at 2500 Daniells Bridge Road. Onsite attendance is required five days a week, and remote work is not offered for this position.
This position is for permanent, full-time employment. Candidates must reside in the state of Georgia or be willing to relocate to Georgia as a condition of employment.

Job Summary
This position serves as an application developer responsible for project work and end user support for the Ellucian application suite. Enhancements to the Student Information System are developed using a range of technologies, including Pro*C, SQL, PL/SQL, Java, Groovy/Grails, API based integrations, the Eclipse development framework, and other web technologies, with all data maintained in an Oracle database environment.
The Software Developer, Entry level follows established Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies and adheres to IT best practices and standards, including the use of Git for source code version control. The role also includes providing technical support to functional business analysts to resolve end user issues, with a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction.
Tasks in this position are diverse and often time sensitive, requiring strong organizational and time management skills. As the organization evolves, development tools and technologies may change as systems migrate toward Cloud based or Software as a Service (SaaS) architectures.
Responsibilities
Develop student information system enhancements using the desired technology solution while following industry standards.
Debug existing enhancements as needed to support business analysts in resolving end-user issues.
Adhere to team coding standards to provide uniform solutions.
Participate in code reviews with other developers during each release cycle for cross training.
A strong understanding of database, design, and development logic and constructs.
Partner with project management and functional teams to align development activities with project milestones and timelines.
Required Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree and one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with a Student Information system or the Ellucian application suite (Banner, Degree Works), Oracle PL/SQL, Java, Unix, Eclipse IDE and Git.

Ability to understand complex, inter-related data dependencies in a modular software application
Ability to research and recommend the implementation of new features and components of the application model
Should be a self-starter who is able to identify and resolve problems with limited instruction
Perform and handle complex and multi-level tasks from start to finish
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Work effectively and efficiently with team members across departments
