Description
Knox College invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Modern Languages - French to begin on September 1, 2023. The successful candidate will be a strong language instructor who places French language acquisition in a global context.
We particularly invite applications from French studies and European studies scholars with demonstrated research and teaching interests that affect and connect the Francophone world, such as colonialism, revolutions, immigration, gender and sexuality, media, as well as relations with Europe and other parts of the globe. Another potentially attractive area of emphasis would be French for the Professions, or French for Special Purposes. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in teaching French courses at all undergraduate levels of our proficiency-oriented and inclusive program.
This appointment is a full-time position with the possibility of renewal. The teaching responsibilities include two classes per each of three 10-week terms (Fall, Winter, Spring) as well as contributing to support for advanced students in French and related academic programs. Teaching responsibilities will be divided between French language instruction and courses in the candidate's area of specialization.

French faculty work hard to enroll a diverse group of students at all levels of instruction and successful candidates should be prepared to work to make French courses appealing and welcoming to all of Knox's students. Experience working with diverse populations of students and a commitment to teach successfully in a multicultural environment are expected.
Visiting faculty members at Knox are included in the professional and intellectual life of the College. The visiting faculty member will have a modest annual conference travel budget and access to research resources. Pay is commensurate with entry-level faculty positions at the College.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. expected in French language and literature or related field, but strong ABD candidates will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of written and spoken French.
