How much do entry level security analyst jobs pay per year?
What does an entry level security analyst do?
Entry-level security analysts examine information to help identify risks and threats, then recommend and help implement strategies to stop those threats from damaging their employer’s network or property. In this role, you typically work under a senior analyst to develop your skills and learn more about the tools and techniques used to be more effective in your job. Many security analysts specialize in the industry. For example, cybersecurity analysts often focus on problems such as hacking and viruses, while physical security analysts may look for blind spots in camera coverage and patrols at private facilities. Entry-level security analysts usually work regular hours, but employers may occasionally ask you to work nights or weekends, based on their security needs.

• Analyze business processes, user requirements, and data to identify insights, pain points, and improvement opportunities.
• Use foundational data skills (SQL basics, data exploration, statistical literacy, and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Excel) to support analysis.
• Communicate findings and recommendations clearly, translating technical concepts into language that cross-functional audiences can understand.
• Convert business needs into functional requirements, user stories, workflows, acceptance criteria, and test support materials.
• Leverage modern and AI-enabled workplace tools to organize information, summarize findings, draft documentation, identify patterns, and streamline analysis.
• Apply responsible AI practices by considering privacy, security, data quality, transparency, and appropriate human oversight when using AI-enabled tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions meet business needs and deliver strong user experiences.
• Support testing, usability reviews, documentation, training materials, and client deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with comfort navigating ambiguity and complex information.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify and explain complex ideas.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with cross functional teams.
• Exposure to business analysis, AI tools, data analysis, cloud technologies, cybersecurity concepts, or software development through coursework, internships, research, or personal projects is preferred but not required.
