Job description

Brewer Science, Inc. is a major innovator of high-technology solutions for the semiconductor / microelectronics markets. We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Research Scientist IV. This position will be located in Rolla, MO.
Summary:
Research Scientists act as the technical lead for research and development of products. Research Scientists are also responsible for designing and conducting laboratory experiments, analyses, and processes to develop new product offerings.
Responsibilities:
  • Execute laboratory experiments, including chemical reactions, synthesis, sample preparation, and performance characterization to develop new chemical products, improve existing formulations, and optimize manufacturing processes, with minimal supervision.
  • Process and analyze experimental data using statistical methods and software tools to draw meaningful conclusions and make recommendations for further experimentation or process refinement.
  • Maintain detailed records and lab notebooks of experimental procedures, results, and observations. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including chemists, engineers, and manufacturing specialists to support project objectives and drive innovation.
  • Assist in creating new testing processes.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with industry standards.
  • Implement efficiency or cost reduction initiatives as appropriate.
  • Design and conduct experiments, including synthesis, sample preparation, and performance characterization, under minimal supervision.
  • Create new testing processes and improve upon current processes.
  • Take ownership of small development sub-projects as assigned.
  • May train new team members or technicians.
  • Operate all instruments within the group.
  • Perform basic method development, expansion, validation, and documentation.
  • Author reports on results obtained from material characterization and routine testing.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to inform research strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of intellectual property through patent disclosures and publications.

  • May work closely with cross-functional teams to scale up laboratory processes for large-scale manufacturing.
  • Design and implement quality control measures to ensure the consistency and reliability of products.
  • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to develop and maintain product specifications.
  • Investigate and resolve quality-related issues, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Conduct experimental research to develop and optimize processes.
  • Investigate and implement innovative technologies to enhance product quality and production efficiency.
  • Conduct risk assessments for new processes and implement safety measures accordingly.
  • Independently support all aspects of Research and Development projects and assist with the transfer through the product development process.
  • Give presentations to customers and at industry forums.
  • Complete document work and assist with the submission of new intellectual property.
  • Provide help with intellectual property maintenance.
  • Help set safety and housekeeping standards and monitor how they are practiced in daily activities.
  • Improve and teach lab procedures.
  • Follow current development needs and look for alternative approaches to problems.
  • Follow current best laboratory notebook practices and help to improve and implement the process.
  • Provide in-depth data analysis summary for new material testing and product problem-solving needs.
  • Work closely with project lead to drive project management tasks including planning and meeting project deadlines.
  • Train and mentor entry-level scientists and technicians to complete tasks.
  • Independently lead all aspects of research and development projects, and the transfer through the product development processes.
  • Serve as project lead, with guidance from management, to drive project management tasks including planning, setting milestones, and meeting project deadlines, and communicating progress to stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present presentations that show a strong theoretical knowledge of the subject and convey this knowledge effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Design, test, and implement continuous improvement projects showing value to cost and/or efficiency.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple research projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including production, quality control, and marketing, to ensure seamless integration of research outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with external research partners, universities, and industry experts.

Education & Credentials:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related discipline and 6+ years of experience or
  • Master's degree in Chemistry or related discipline and 4+ years of experience or
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related discipline or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
