Job description

Here we grow again!!  ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking six (6) GIS Technicians, (all Entry-level) to join our team supporting the Census Bureau in Suitland, MD.  US Citizenship is required.  Must currently reside in the Maryland/Virginia/DC area to be considered.

If you have graduated with a certificate, associate's degree or bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS or a related field that taught ArcGIS Pro, BUT have not been able to find a position since graduating, this is a great way to get your "foot in the door!"

ASRC Federal offers an excellent benefits package that includes tuition reimbursement, certification reimbursement and more.  This program offers a remote work schedule but requires residing in the DC/MD/VA metro area.  This position will be focused on tasks related to maintaining accuracy and completeness of the Census MAF (Master Address File)/TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing System) Database (MTDB), required changes to boundaries, streets, and addresses are identified and digitized as needed primarily through Census proprietary software.

Requirements:

  • US Citizenship and presently residing in the DC/MD/VA area. (If you reside outside of the area, you will not be considered for these positions).
  • Certificate in Cartography or GIS, an Associates degree in Geography or GIS, or a Bachelor's degree in Geography or GIS (will consider other degrees such as Environmental Science).
  • Internship experience is a plus; 
  • Coursework/ project or labs with ArcGIS (workstation and desktop); Arc View, AutoCAD Map.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Some knowledge of civil engineering, cartography surveying and drafting.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro, Imagery, and understanding of Databases.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to share GIS knowledge with other team members. 
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Responsibilities:

  • This is a direct position in GIS data enhancement and maintenance using ESRI and custom GIS software.
  • Evaluate, edit, and check street centerline, hydrography, and other data layers (graphics and attributes), using custom map production tools.
  • Using computer software will include revisions and edits of GIS drawings and files. Edits made according to the instructions provided by the supervisors.
  • Additions or deletions of highlighted boundary or shape files
  • Reading instruction provided with the shape files
  • Reshaping road layers that should not be over lapping with the Hydro layers
  • Maintaining live spatial data in a secured environment.
  • Editing, modifying, and creating various data layers.
  • Will maintain daily production schedule and work with customized data automation tools and procedures
