Position Description & Qualifications
Serco is currently accepting resumes for Entry Level Scientists for Durham, NC. Continuing our support to the US EPA in the RTP area. The primary focus is wet chemistry and soil science with laboratory support following standard operating procedures for laboratory tasks and tests.
In this role you will:
  • Perform sample collection and analyses during the experiments.
  • Operate equipment, observe significant events that affect results, and suggest modifications to experimental designs and/or equipment configurations.
  • Maintain and repair experimental equipment and ancillary devices. Make alterations as required to improve equipment operation or investigate additional parameters that may affect the evaluation of the process.
  • Evaluate data acquired and prepare reports documenting the operation of the test equipment, the results obtained, and the quality of the results. The reports shall include any tables, charts, graphs, drawings, or appendices necessary to fully explain the experiments performed, shall clearly document the results, and shall identify and support the quality of data included.
  • Conduct experiments related to the evaluation of sampling (surface and air) and analytical techniques for the measurement of chemical, biological, and radiological agents; and experiments related to the fate and transport of such agents.
  • Maintain and repair pumps, fans, controllers, and other associated equipment, as needed
  • Develop test plans to meet research objectives, review execution of such plans, evaluate data, and report results.
  • Modify bench, pilot, and full-scale installation configurations and install test equipment as required by research objectives.
  • May conduct field evaluations of various types of pollutant collection, measuring, and/or monitoring instruments and methods. This may include operating and maintaining a field evaluation facility for this purpose. Most such field evaluations are expected to be in the local RTP area; however, field evaluations at non-local locations may be required on occasion.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • U.S Citizenship required
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, biology, natural resources, or a related scientific discipline
  • Minimum 6 months of laboratory experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
