Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree including, at least, six quarter hours in statistics, mathematics, and/or computer science and experience equivalent to one year of full-time professional statistical work.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying experience in professional statistical work may substitute for the required education, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of four years (e.g., experience equivalent to one year of full-time work in the above listed field may substitute for one year of the required education).
Substitution of Graduate Education for Experience: Graduate course work credit received from an accredited college or university in any statistical field, including but not limited to applied statistics or mathematics; social, behavioral, health, or life science; computer science; any business field including but not limited to accounting or business administration; and/or public administration may substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis to a maximum of one year (e.g., 36 graduate quarter hours in one or a combination of the above listed fields may substitute for one year of the required experience).
Overview
Under general supervision, is responsible for professional statistical analytic work of average difficulty; performs related work as required. This is the working-level class in the Statistical Analyst sub-series. An employee in this class is responsible for the conduct of statistical studies, research, and statistical analysis. This class is flexibly staffed with and differs from that of Statistical Analyst 1 in that an incumbent of the latter functions at the entry level. This class differs from that of Statistical Analyst 3 in that an incumbent of the latter functions at the advanced working level.
Responsibilities
1. Designs studies, applies statistical techniques, interprets results, uses specialized software, and ensures accuracy of data for publication or presentation.
2. Formats software for statistical analysis, creates multimedia representations of data, and manages data entry and backups.
3. Writes and finalizes reports, compiles and verifies study results, creates graphical illustrations, and manages long-term projects.
4. Communicates with external customers and agencies to collect data, collaborate, and provide analysis using various communication technologies.
5. Utilizes appropriate metrics, interprets statistical reports for non-experts, and clarifies data accuracy and limitations.
6. Identifies inferences from statistical data, ensures proper data collection, develops and maintains data instruments, and conducts secondary research. Encourages survey participation, provides customer service, explains data benefits, and advises on survey responses.
7. Cross-trains with coworkers, ensures correct use of third-party systems, and attends training sessions for personal development. Develops original ideas, designs spreadsheets, and brainstorms process improvements to enhance efficiency.
8. Coordinates with team members, utilizes communication technologies, and communicates with internal customers to achieve objectives.
