Verdantas is seeking a Scientist I to support our Environmental and Stormwater team across the Bay Area. This position is local to project sites and offers a hybrid work environment, combining field-based work with remote flexibility.
This is an entry-level stormwater professional role and is a great fit for someone who is eager to learn, grow, and contribute within a collaborative environment while making a positive impact on the environment.
What You'll Do
  • Support environmental and stormwater compliance projects
  • Conduct stormwater inspections and field evaluations
  • Develop and implement Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs)
  • Perform stormwater sampling and site monitoring activities
  • Complete desktop evaluations and site assessments
  • Provide on-site training and guidance to construction crews
  • Prepare documentation, reporting, and compliance records
  • Assist clients with regulatory compliance and pollution prevention efforts
  • Collaborate with internal teams on routine and complex projects
  • Support additional initiatives and special projects as assigned
  • Travel to project sites, including occasional overnight travel and extended hours as needed

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field
  • 0-2 years of experience in stormwater compliance or SWPPP-related work
  • Knowledge of stormwater regulations, water quality practices, and environmental compliance
  • Experience with inspection, sampling, and reporting processes
  • Familiarity with erosion control, site stabilization, and restoration practices
  • Understanding of California stormwater regulations and permitting (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to train field teams
  • Proficiency in documentation and compliance tracking systems
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites

Nice to Have
  • QSP/QSD certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Additional certifications (CESSWI, CPESC, CPSWQ, QISP, PE, PG)
  • Experience with SMARTS and California Construction General Permit
  • Exposure to environmental permitting or natural resources work
  • Familiarity with industry tools such as ArcGIS

Salary Range:
$50,000.00 - $60,000.00
