Job description

RR Floody Company is seeking an Automation Engineer. This position will be responsible for implementing and supporting automation systems including Machine Vision Systems, PLC's, motion control systems, and Robotics. The Engineer will be responsible for application testing, programming, technical support, sales support, field support and installations. A limited amount of travel in Illinois and Wisconsin will be required. This is an in-person position based in Rockford, IL.
Essential Functions:
  • Understanding of Automated Control Systems
  • Interface Daily with the Customers, Sales Engineers, and other internal Engineering/Sales personnel.
  • Assist with specifying, testing, installation and programming of machine vision, robotics, and other control equipment.
  • Develop machine vision applications to perform required inspection functions.
  • Develop robot programs to perform required material handling functions.
  • Automation development, improvements, training, tech support and troubleshooting.
  • Start-up and commission completed system at customer site for final customer approval.
  • Assist with workshops and training classes covering vision systems and robots

Skill Requirements:
  • Must possess strong analytical and technical skills
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and computer skills required
  • Must have the ability/desire to work in a team environment
  • Must demonstrate the ability to promote a safe working environment
  • Must be innovative, showing a drive for results
  • Must be self driven and have an ability to learn technical products through self study and collaboration with other Engineers
  • Must have strong project management skills and be able to independently manage installation / programming efforts at multiple customer sites

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required
  • PLC programming experience (Allen Bradley, Misubishi, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience in Machine Vision Systems (Cognex or Keyence) is a plus
