Job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled critical care RN who is motivated to provide safe and efficient care to the patient population in multiple facilities throughout our health system.
As an RN in the Vandalia Health North (VHN) Multicampus Float Pool you will coordinate total patient centered care ensuring optimal service to the communities we serve. The RN will facilitate patient care in an inpatient setting including but not limited to critical care departments. The critical care departments include Cardiovascular and Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Units in multiple facilities throughout VHN.
The RN will undergo an orientation process at Mon Health Medical Center (MHMC) in the critical care unit and other inpatient departments. When training is completed at MHMC the RN will be expected to function in all VHN facilities after a brief orientation at each facility.
The central scheduling office within Mon Health Medical Center deploys the RN to each facility on an as needed basis and provides ample notice to the RN of their schedule requirements. The scheduling requirements consist of three 12-hour shifts per week with weekend and holiday requirements.
Responsibilities
Assessment: The registered nurse collects comprehensive data pertinent to the healthcare consumer's health and/or situation by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.
Diagnosis: The registered nurse analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnoses or the issues by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.
Outcomes Identification: The registered nurse identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the healthcare consumer or the situation by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.
Planning: The registered nurse develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternative to attain expected outcomes by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.
Implementation: The registered nurse implements the identified plan by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.
Evaluation: The registered nurse evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time
Critical Thinking
The critical care RN is expected to make quick and informed decisions in high-pressure situations. The RN is expected to use available data and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to facilitate patient care.
Clinical Skills
The critical care RN is expected to understand and trend lab values, monitor cardiac rhythm via EKG or telemetry, monitor changes in physical assessments, and monitor/regulate vital signs as ordered by providers. Timely acknowledgement and completion of physician orders is also important to patient care. The RN is expected to be familiar with various critical care machines including ventilators, bipap, cpap, arterial line monitoring, transducers, etc. Quick identification and reaction to changes in the patient's assessment promotes high quality outcomes.
Pharmacology
The critical care RN is expected to understand the purpose and safe usage of medications for optimal patient outcomes. A high level of competency regarding the titration of multiple medications per physician order is required. Using the five rights of medication, the RN is expected to practice safe medication administration to promote quality patient care. The RN is expected to follow all medication administration policies and procedures as outline by MHMC and other VHN facilities.
Communication
The critical care RN is expected to communicate with their patients, family members, and care teams to facilitate patient care and keep others informed of changes in the patient's status. Communication can be done verbally or non-verbally. Proper and timely documentation in multiple electronic medical records (EMRs) is vital to the communication amongst the multidisciplinary care team. Using proper and professional terminology to accurately portray the clinical picture of the patient promotes quality outcomes and ensures the patient's needs are addressed in a timely manner.
Professionalism
The critical care RN is held to a high standard and expected to function in a professional manner in multiple VHN facilities. This includes but is not limited to maintaining an exemplary attendance record, providing safe and quality patient care, communicating with coworkers, patients, and family members in a professional manner, and maintaining all required licensures and certifications in good standing with the respective governing bodies. The RN is expected to maintain a high level of competency by completing required education as provided by the VHN facilities. The RN is expected to follow all policies and procedures of each VHN facility in which they are assigned.
Ethics
The critical care RN is expected to make ethical decisions and escalate potential concerns as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required: Five years of RN experience
Preferred: Prior travel experience.
Light Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. with a maximum lifting of 25 lbs.
