About the Agency: Mississippi Public Broadcasting is seeking a Broadcast Trades Technician I for the agency's Transmission Division to assist in the maintenance and upgrading of transmitter and microwave tower sites. The Broadcast Technician I is considered an entry level trainee position for a candidate interested in a career in radio frequency (RF), electronics, and broadcast technology maintenance support.
About the Position: The candidate must be willing to obtain a knowledge of power generation equipment and UPS back-up power systems, HVAC systems as well as general electronics and computer networking experience. Must demonstrate a passion for a career in technology maintenance and support through a course of study or chosen hobbies.Responsibilities:1. Assisting with and performing equipment upgrades. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining the north microwave radio network and broadcast transmission sites.2. Assisting with the management of power generation equipment, electrical transfer, andvoltage regulation equipment. Assisting with generator and electrical maintenance contracts, mechanics, support personnel and fuel service vendors.3. Assisting with yard maintenance at all tower sites, assisting with contracts for fence line and guy alley brush cutting and timber clearing, maintaining road and site accessibility, fences and property security.heights. Will be required to assist with the maintenance of UPS power supplies, HVAC systems at the microwave sites and assist at the main transmitter sites.5. Must attend equipment vendor training sessions and become familiar with all equipment at all microwave sites and assist with DTV/FM transmitter locations.6. What you'll need to be Successful: Develop the ability to work independently to assist with the maintenance of microwave and transmission tower sites. Have a willingness to travel to various sites to maintain equipment. The ability to serve as a back-up for other Broadcast Network Technicians. Become part of a regular on-call roster and provide monitoring support after hours. Gain a knowledge of FCC rules and regulations related to the technical operating conditions of broadcast licenses.Demonstrate a passion for a career in broadcast technology maintenance and support. Be undertaking further studies in an electronics or electrical engineering field. Show an interest in technology through associated hobbies in electronics, audio / video, or amateur radio.Be available after hours, during natural disasters, and emergencies to provide critical repair, restoration, and recovery support.Willingness to develop practical knowledge and experience in Radio Frequency (RF) fundamentals, high voltage electrical, digital audio and video electronics is required.Willingness to develop a knowledge of IT, switches, and wide area networks would be beneficial.Clean driving record and the ability to operate heavy pickup trucks off road in four-wheel drive. Have competency driving box trucks up to 30ft in length with a stick shift.Be physically capable of lifting 50lb, climb ladders, and feel comfortable at12. Train and develop good, clean, cabling, and installation skills. Become familiar with the assembly of network, audio, and video cables. Learn how to rack mount equipment, read assembly and wiring diagrams.
