Energy Storage Power Market Analyst (Entry - Mid level)
Locations: HOUSTON, TX AREA (HYBRID) / FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA)
This an opportunity to join an industry leading renewable energy venture and IPP with strong private equity backing that is focused on the development/execution of dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects. They are at the forefront of the industry, have accumulated over 8GW of projects in a relatively short period of time, and are currently in an accelerated expansion phase.
The Energy Storage Market Analyst will play a supporting role in driving transmission zonal and nodal production cost modeling efforts to support the commercial strategy of utility-scale renewable energy projects across all ISO / RTO markets in the United States. Experience with AURORA is a HUGE PLUS!
The position will help facilitate operational assessments that are the crux of the portfolio's success. The incumbent will also help pioneer the build-out and utilization of a proprietary battery storage / energy storage management platform for utility-scale renewable projects. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Power Market Analyst / Energy Markets Engineer - develops production cost models and analysis of transmission renewable industry patterns in AURORA, PLEXOS, PROMOD, GRIDVIEW, or UPLAN to predict short/long term electricity prices and drive greenfield renewables project development siting initiatives
  • Power Market Analyst / Energy Markets Engineer - performs optimization modeling to forecast congestion, assess congestion drivers, and assist in locational marginal pricing (LMP) assessments
  • Power Market Analyst / Energy Markets Engineer - advises on zonal & nodal analysis to enhance the company's market platform
  • Power Market Analyst / Energy Markets Engineer - selects trading nodes based on market congestion patterns & bid curve analysis
  • Power Market Analyst / Energy Markets Engineer - facilitates transmission topology comparisons and updates
  • Power Market Analyst / Energy Markets Engineer - develops data visualization dashboards in PowerBI and queries in SQL to streamline processes

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1-3 Years transmission power market experience focused on production cost modeling, economic planning, or transmission market operations experience
  • AURORA power market modelling experience is ideal but similar programs like PROMOD, PLEXOS, GridView, and UPLAN will also be considered
  • Must have experience with various types of analysis - capacity prices, regional energy pricing, congestion and curtailment analysis, transmission constraints, interconnection assessments, LMPs, and/or regional supply and demand curves
  • Data Visualization experience in tools like PowerBI are HUGE PLUS
  • Hands-on experience or solid understanding of transmission topology
  • Must have an understanding of national energy markets and renewable energy portfolios (PJM, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, and CAISO)
  • Experience and strong automation skills in Excel, VBA, SQL, Python, MATLAB
  • Any battery storage or large scale renewable energy (solar, wind, hydrogen) experience is a HUGE PLUS
