Entry-Level Software Tester

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Software Tester to join our Quality Assurance team. This entry-level position is ideal for someone with a technical education and foundational programming and database skills who is interested in building a career in software testing and quality assurance.

The Software Tester will work closely with developers, business analysts, product owners, and other QA team members to validate software functionality, identify defects, and ensure applications meet defined business and technical requirements. The position will include manual testing with opportunities to develop skills in automated testing, API testing, database validation, and other QA technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria to understand expected application functionality.
  • Develop and execute manual & automated test cases and test scenarios.
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Identify, document, track, and retest software defects.
  • Use SQL to query databases and validate application data.
  • Assist with API and web service testing.
  • Support the development and execution of automated tests.
  • Analyze test failures and assist with troubleshooting application issues.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, product owners, and other testers throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Maintain test cases, test data, and supporting QA documentation.
  • Assist with regression testing and release validation.
  • Continuously develop technical and software testing skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Academic, internship, project, or professional experience with:
    • Java
    • Python
    • SQL and relational databases
  • Basic understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Ability to write and troubleshoot basic SQL queries.
  • Understanding of fundamental software development concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies, applications, and business processes.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or familiarity with any of the following is beneficial but not required:

  • Software testing and quality assurance concepts
  • Automated testing or AI
  • Cucumber / Behavior-Driven Development (BDD)
  • REST APIs and Postman

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation and enjoys investigating how applications work and identifying problems. The candidate should be comfortable working with Java, Python, and SQL and interested in applying those skills to software quality assurance and test automation. Previous professional software testing experience is not required; relevant college coursework, technical projects, internships, or other hands-on experience will be considered.
