Job Summary
This position reports to the Refueling Services Supervisor and provides transfer system operation. In addition, the Level 1 Technician performs basic activities during Head Area Maintenance in support of Reactor Vessel Disassembly and Reassembly. Level 1 Technicians also perform basic in vessel maintenance such as underwater camera work to support Level 2 and 3 technicians. This is an entry level position, and the candidate will be expected to move through the various positions within Vistra up to and including Refueling Services Level 3 Technician within a specified timeline.This role can be based at any one of our four nuclear sites.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities
- Perform the duties of a Vistra Level 1 Refueling Services Technician to include:
- Vistra Transfer System Operator. Must be able to operate the Transfer System at a Westinghouse and B&W style PWR as well as the Inclined Fuel Transfer System at Perry. move fuel in vessel at a PWR and BWR Spent Fuel Pools.
- Vistra Level 1 In Vessel Technician. Examples of tasks required to achieve the qualification are underwater camera work and supporting Level 2 and 3 technicians with poles.
- Vistra Level 1 Head Area Maintenance Technician. Examples of tasks required to achieve the qualification are rigging and lifting in the reactor cavity, operating tensioners, removing and installing reactor head installation, and operation of nut runners.
- Work in a safe and error free manner.
- Participate in post outage critiques to provide feedback on improvement opportunities as well as positive lessons learned.
- Achieve Vistra established transfer system operation movement rates to meet outage milestones in a safe and error free manner.
- Participate in various aspects of work control coordination, scheduling, and engineering meetings involving online and refuel outage activities, to ensure that assigned work is properly assigned, planned and ready to work.
- Actively participate in all Vistra processes, such as the training program, surveillance program, and CAP to ensure effective work practices.
- Work with the Site Refueling Services Management Team to identify and support improvement opportunities.
- Support the maintenance on the fuel handling equipment to include PM schedules, corrective maintenance tracking, and upgrade implementation.
- Perform maintenance on the rector services tooling to include PM schedules, corrective maintenance tracking, upgrades, and replacements.
- Identify equipment issues to the Refueling Services Supervisor in order to track equipment issues to ensure the reliable performance of head area maintenance and underwater tooling and equipment.
- As needed provide input to assist with the preparation of plans and specifications.
- Work as part of the fleet team to evaluate Reactor Services activities and recommend equipment, new concepts and techniques to improve performance, reduce costs, correct design, or improve worker safety.
- As requested, provide input to assist with planning for work orders for site Refueling Services.
- Support Dry Cask equipment set up as well as New Fuel Receipt.
- Provide input and assist with the review of the Refueling Services outage schedule.
- Must be willing and available to travel as assigned to other Vistra Nuclear Plants in support of maintenance and/or operational activities, including outages, dry cask storage, and outage preparation activities.
- All other job assignments and/or duties pursuant to company policy as approved by the Site Refueling Services Manager.
Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Nuclear utility worker with technical / mechanical job skills and 2 years of experience, OR
- Completed trade school in boiler maker, iron worker, pipe fitter or other mechanical craft, OR
- Military veteran with technical / mechanical job skills and 2 years of work experience
- Capable of passing a respirator physical
- Work in radiological protective clothing while wearing a PAPR for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Knowledge of refueling tooling as well as advanced knowledge of hand tools
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- OEM training in Refueling Services
- Knowledge of Lifting, Rigging and Material Handling Industry Standards
*** MANDATORY TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS ***
Refueling Technician I is considered high travel positions with mandatory travel. Technicians are required to travel to support all Vistra Refueling Outages. This includes both planned refueling outages and may include unplanned outages if reactor maintenance is required. In addition, technicians will be required to travel to support pre-outage preparations, dry cask storage, operational performance improvement initiatives, training, and other fleet needs. While every effort is made to provide advance notice of travel certain events may dictate short notice travel situations. Technicians will be compensated for travel time and expenses in accordance with company policies.
