Job description

The Innovation and Technology Department is accepting applications for Radio Communications System Analysts for the Public Safety Communications Division.

Radio Communications System Analysts coordinate, design, and maintain the County's emergency radio system, equipment, and associated circuits for the transmission, reception, and display of voice, data, and other information on wireless communication systems for designated County departments and outside agencies. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Performing complex analytical and technical work on land mobile radio subscriber equipment, trunked radio systems, circuit transport systems, and dispatch console electronics and systems Engineering and designing conventional and trunked radio and related high and low capacity interconnect systems, towers, sites, and antenna systems Installing, configuring and maintaining radio communications systems and components including repeater stations, voting and controller systems, and dispatching console equipment as well as subscriber unit Troubleshooting system failures, performance deficiencies and circuit/wiring issues. The Public Safety Communications Division provides design, operation, maintenance, and administration of one of the largest County-operated telecommunications networks in the country.

The network includes the County's Regional Public Safety Radio System, which integrates all countywide law enforcement, fire, and EMS radio dispatch capabilities. Incorporated in the network are voice, radio, paging, and mobile data service elements. For more detailed information, refer to the Radio Communications System Analyst job description.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, candidate must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam. Availability: Incumbents must be willing to work different shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays in support of a 24/7 operation.

Positions are subject to emergency call backs and may be assigned to various work locations throughout the County without advance notice. Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

Physical Requirements: Duties may involve lifting up to fifty (50) pounds; bending, stooping, and kneeling. Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States.

Minimum Requirements Candidates must meet the experience and education requirements to qualify. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience administering and maintaining land mobile radio equipment, trunked radio systems, IP network transport systems, and dispatch electronic equipment. --AND-- REQUIRED EDUCATION: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units (or comparable hours) of completed technical coursework or training in electronics, communication technology, or related field.

Substitution: One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may substitute the education requirement. Desired Qualifications Experience operating and maintaining Motorola Astro Digital and Analog Radio Systems. Experience optimizing and servicing simulcast radio systems.

Experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing dispatch console systems. Experience configuring and optimizing radio systems and evaluating coverage performance. Experience with legacy VHF and UHF repeater systems.

Experience with configuration and troubleshooting of Juniper router systems. Possession of an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License, ETA International CETa or GCT1/2.
