About the Job
The Asset Management Technician is an entry level position for the Asset Management and Valuation Services. The Technician is responsible for a variety of asset management duties, including maintaining fixed asset records on all pieces of equipment for BOCES and school district clients (systematic tracking, tagging, and auditing of all district-owned property).
This role ensures that the district remains compliant with state reporting requirements and internal audit controls. Direct contact and interaction with clients are an integral part of this position. Work is performed under direct supervision with moderate leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment following professional accounting procedures.
You will be the "boots on the ground," moving between school buildings to verify equipment and maintain an accurate digital database. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills, as well as computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and all things of the internet. They should be professional, and be able to multitask in a busy office work environment. Travel is a requirement in this position.
Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain fixed asset inventory records on all pieces of equipment.
  • Performs physical inventories of supplies, equipment, and fixed assets.
  • Prepares and maintains manual and electronic fixed asset records and reports ready for reference using computer applications.
  • Uses computer and fixed asset software to acknowledge receipt of inventory, maintain receiving records, and issue fixed asset tags.
  • Communicate with vendors, staff, and supervisors to ensure the efficient operation of the fixed asset inventory.
  • Will meet regularly with the Team Leader to provide progress reports in each area of responsibility, to address policy issues, to plan activities within these areas of responsibility, and to offer recommendations that will promote the effective and efficient delivery of those services.
  • Completes other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree in Business or Accounting preferred but not required).
  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (sorting, filtering, basic formulas) and comfort level learning inventory management software.
  • Attention to Detail: The ability to accurately transcribe long alphanumeric serial numbers-mistakes here cause big headaches later!
  • Physical Ability: Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and spend significant time walking/standing during inventory cycles.
  • Communication: A friendly, professional demeanor when entering School Buildings and interacting with faculty and staff.
As a public employer, Questar III follows Columbia County Civil Service and residency requirements will apply (must be a resident of Albany, Rensselaer, Columbia, Greene, Ulster, or Dutchess County to be considered). The successful applicant would be given a provisional appointment and be required to take a civil service exam once it is announced.
