Contributes to the overall success of climate risk modelling globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:    

  • Takes a leading role to develop new models to assess the impact of transition and physical risks due to climate change on the Bank.  Responsibilities include:
    • Conduct research on best practices for financial modeling of climate related risks
    • Explore model methodologies and make sound recommendations
    • Evaluate and understand implications of different data sources and global climate scenarios
    • Build models and run analyses to test sensitivity of assumptions
  • Develop appropriate metrics and reporting to support use of climate scenario analysis for climate risk and opportunities; Clearly communicate methods and results to stakeholders
  • Collaborate across Bank to integrate climate risk into Bank's processes, including supporting other stress testing functions to develop climate risk stress testing
  • Documents all models and processes developed and works with the model validation team to ensure timely and satisfactory validation.
  • Takes a leading role in managing relationships with subsidiaries globally. Works with subsidiaries to understand needs, provide analysis, and support interpretation.
     
  • Builds, enhances, and automates processes to facilitate ongoing monitoring and maintenance of models and analyses of quarterly results. Executes quarterly processes and is accountable for the timely analysis of quarterly results. Produces ad hoc analyses as required.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have: 
 

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field).
  • Demonstrated experience independently developing, implementing, and validating quantitative models.
  • Strong data science and analytical skills, including the ability to source, manipulate, and analyze large and complex datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, modelling, and automation
  • Experience working with analytics and development tools, including version control platforms (e.g., Git/Bitbucket) and data visualization/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI).
  • Experience with geospatial analytics and related tools (e.g., ArcGIS, GeoPandas, QGIS).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of OSFI B-15 Climate Risk Management requirements and climate scenario frameworks (e.g., NGFS scenarios).
  • Experience supporting model validation, audit, regulatory review, or model governance activities preferred.
