- Inspection and verification of mechanical components, fabrication, and assemblies
- Review of inspection/test documentation and acceptance records
- Verification of compliance with drawings, specifications, and code requirements
- Participation in quality system activities including audits, corrective actions, and process improvements
General Inspection Duties
- Perform inspections and tests in accordance with approved procedures, drawings, and acceptance criteria
- Document inspection and test results clearly and accurately
- Identify, document, and report nonconforming conditions
- Witness and verify work activities when required by governing documents
- Maintain complete and traceable quality records
- Support process reporting and continuous improvement initiatives
Consistent with qualification expectations, inspectors must be capable of performing and documenting inspections in accordance with procedures and standards.
Incoming Material Inspection & Traceability
- Review Certified Material Test Reports (CMTRs/MTRs) for compliance with procurement and code requirements
- Verify heat/lot traceability to drawings and purchase orders
- Perform receiving inspections and document acceptance status
- Segregate and control nonconforming materials
- Develop and maintain inspection plans and travelers
Dimensional and Visual Inspection
- Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gauges, gauges, CMM systems)
- Verify conformance to dimensional tolerances and GD&T requirements
- Generate inspection reports, including First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation
- Conduct visual inspections for workmanship, fit-up, and weld conformance
Welding and Fabrication Quality Support
- Verify welding documentation including WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications
- Confirm traceability of welds and associated materials
- Support or witness qualification activities as required
- Verify compliance with applicable welding codes and standards
Audits, Nonconformance, and Corrective Action
- Participate in internal and supplier audits
- Support or lead Nonconformance Reports (NCR) and Corrective/Preventive Actions (CAPA)
- Perform root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions
- Support Material Review Board (MRB) activities
Metrology and Calibration
- Verify calibration status of inspection and test equipment prior to use
- Maintain control of gauges, fixtures, and measurement systems
- Coordinate calibration activities with external providers
- Support measurement system analysis (e.g., gage R&R)
Documentation and Records
- Maintain accurate, legible, and complete inspection/test records
- Ensure records meet quality program requirements for traceability and retention
- Support documentation required for certification and qualification records
Education and Experience
Minimum qualifications shall be consistent with applicable inspection personnel requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum baseline requirement)
- Relevant inspection or testing experience in applicable disciplines
