Lab Technician / Engineer - Services Delivery Equipment
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Lab Technician / Engineer to join our Telecom Lab team supporting Services Delivery and Technical Assistance Center (TAC) operations. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for candidates who are passionate about telecommunications infrastructure, networking equipment, and hands-on lab environments.
In this role, you will assist with the setup, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of telecom lab equipment used in customer service delivery and TAC escalation workflows. You will work alongside senior engineers to support real-world solutions across a broad range of telecom hardware and software platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Lab Operations & Equipment
  • Set up, configure, and maintain telecom lab equipment including routers, switches, optical transport gear, and access devices.
  • Support lab builds for proof-of-concept (PoC) testing, customer demos, and services delivery validation.
  • Maintain an accurate equipment inventory and ensure lab assets are properly labeled, racked, and cabled.
  • Coordinate with procurement and logistics for equipment staging, shipping, and returns.
  • Manage lab access, housekeeping, and safety compliance in accordance with department standards.
  • Comfortable working around power systems,

TAC Equipment Support
  • Assist engineers in replicating customer issues within the lab environment.
  • Configure and test designated equipment to reproduce fault conditions, validate fixes, and document findings.

  • Maintain lab environments including firmware/software version management on test devices.
  • Assist in the decommissioning, reimaging, and redeployment of returned or repurposed equipment.

Services Delivery Support
  • Assist services delivery teams with pre-staging and validation of customer-bound equipment and configurations.
  • Execute test plans and document results to ensure equipment meets acceptance criteria before deployment.
  • Coordinate with project managers and field engineers to ensure timely delivery of lab-readied hardware.
  • Provide basic technical support during equipment hand-offs, upgrades, or field escalations.

Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain lab runbooks, topology diagrams, and test procedure documentation.
  • Log all lab activities, equipment configurations, and test outcomes in the designated ticketing or tracking system.
  • Generate status reports for ongoing lab projects and communicate updates to team leads.

Required Qualifications
  • 0-2 years of experience in a telecom, networking, or IT lab environment.
  • Ability to identify opportunities of improvement.
  • Foundational knowledge of networking concepts: OSI model, TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP basics), and WAN technologies.
  • Familiarity with telecom equipment categories such as routers, switches, DSLAMs, ONTs, multiplexers, or access platforms.
  • Comfortable with physical lab work: rack mounting, cable management, fiber/copper patching, and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and follow technical documentation, test plans, and lab topologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document work accurately and consistently.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills; able to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Working knowledge of Python scripting for automation, data parsing, or lab tooling.
  • Familiarity with HTML and JavaScript for internal tooling, reporting dashboards, or documentation portals.
  • Proficiency with SharePoint for document management, team collaboration, and knowledge base maintenance.
  • Self starter and have ability to successfully completing tasks with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to research and devise solutions with little to know information.

  • Familiarity with optical networking technologies (DWDM, SONET/SDH, OTN, PON/GPON).
  • Basic scripting or automation experience (Python, Bash, Ansible) in a lab context.
  • Linux administration and installation skills, including package management, system configuration, CLI proficiency, and basic troubleshooting on common distributions (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL).
  • Prior internship, co-op, or lab assistant role in a telecom or service provider environment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Primary work location is a hands-on telecom lab; may require occasional travel to field sites or data centers.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs and work in a rack-dense lab environment.
  • May be required to work non-standard hours to support critical TAC escalations or project deadlines.
  • Must adhere to all lab safety policies, ESD handling procedures, and equipment security protocols.
