The Chino Police Department is seeking highly motivated, service-oriented individuals to join our team. We are looking for candidates who are committed to serving the community with professionalism, integrity, and respect. As a Police Recruit, you'll begin your career with a department dedicated to excellence, teamwork, and providing exceptional public safety services to those who live, work, and play in the City of Chino.
Qualified applicants who meet the minimum qualifications may be invited to participate in the selection process, which includes attending a Physical Agility Test (PAT), Written Examination and oral interview, comprehensive police background investigation, and an administrative review.
Career Advancement: Police Recruits who successfully complete a California POST-certified Police Basic Training Academy and satisfy all departmental requirements will be promoted to the classification of Police Officer and become members of the Chino Police Officers Association (CPOA). Upon promotion, they will serve a probationary period and be granted full peace officer authority.

Duties/Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision and guidance of a designated training officer, Police Recruits develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Police Officer.
Police Recruits are required to attend a California POST-certified Police Basic Training Academy, where they receive comprehensive training in criminal law, law enforcement procedures, defensive tactics, firearms, first aid, physical fitness, and other essential law enforcement topics. Recruits also participate in departmental orientation and training.
Please Note: Employment as a Police Recruit is contingent upon successfully completing the Police Academy. Recruits who do not successfully complete the academy will be separated from employment and may apply for future consideration if eligible.
Essential Functions:
  • Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents, and places.
  • Use and care for firearms.
  • Think and act quickly in emergencies, and judge situations and people accurately.
  • Learn, understand, and interpret laws and regulations and department policies.
  • Prepare accurate and grammatically correct written reports.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D (required); and supplemental Police Science courses (preferred).
Licenses/Certifications: Possess a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
Experience: This is an entry level position; no prior law enforcement work experience is required.
Knowledge of:
  • Criminal justice system.

Ability to:
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Meet standards of physical stature, endurance, and agility established by the City.
  • Learn standard broadcasting procedures of a Police radio system.

Special Requirements
  • Age Requirement: Pursuant to California Government Code section 1031.4, applicants must be at least 20½ yearsof age at the time of application and 21 years of age by the time they are appointed as a sworn Police Officer.
  • Written Examination: Applicants must successfully pass with a total T-Score of 45.0 or higher the Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB), a written examination developed by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). The exam is designed for entry-level peace officer candidates and does not require prior law enforcement experience. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the POST PELLETB Applicant Preparation Guide and Sample Test before taking the examination.
