What is an entry level property management job?

Entry level property management jobs are positions suited for individuals new to the property management field. These roles typically involve assisting with tasks such as coordinating repairs, handling tenant inquiries, collecting rent, conducting property inspections, and maintaining records. Entry-level property managers often work under the supervision of more experienced managers to learn about leasing procedures, property maintenance, and landlord-tenant laws. These jobs provide valuable experience and are a common starting point for those seeking to advance in real estate or property management careers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level property manager?

To thrive as an Entry Level Property Manager, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of property management principles, often supported by a high school diploma or associate degree. Familiarity with property management software (like AppFolio or Yardi), Microsoft Office, and knowledge of local housing regulations are valuable technical assets. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills help build positive relationships with tenants and resolve issues efficiently. These skills ensure effective property operations, tenant satisfaction, and compliance with regulations, which are critical for success in property management.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level property managers, and how can I prepare to handle them?

Entry-level property managers often face challenges such as handling tenant concerns, balancing multiple maintenance requests, and learning to enforce lease terms consistently. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are crucial for managing these situations. Being proactive, learning from more experienced team members, and familiarizing yourself with property management software can help you adapt quickly. Training and mentorship are commonly provided, so taking initiative to ask questions and seek feedback will support your growth in the role.

Job description

Description

ย Celtic Property Management is seeking a highly personable, compassionate, and experienced Assistant Community Manager to join the established onsite team at Sunrise Vista in Phoenix, Arizona.

This is not an entry-level property management position. We are looking for someone who understands affordable housing, can step into the role with confidence, and has the experience necessary to hit the ground running.

Just as important as technical knowledge, we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with people. Sunrise Vista serves a diverse resident population, including residents participating in SMI supportive housing programs. The right candidate must be patient, empathetic, respectful, professional, and able to work effectively with residents who may require additional understanding, communication, and support.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Prior Assistant Manager, Community Manager, or affordable housing property management experienceย
  • Strong working knowledge of HUD requirementsย
  • Experience with Section 8 and voucher-based housing programsย
  • Strong knowledge of LIHTC/Tax Credit complianceย
  • Experience with certifications, recertifications, income verification, resident files, and compliance documentationย
  • Experience with leasing, rent collection, delinquency, resident accounts, and noticesย
  • Ability to understand and follow Fair Housing requirements and company policiesย
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detailย
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy onsite environmentย
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skillsย
  • Experience with Yardi strongly preferred

Requirements

ย The Person We're Looking For

Technical knowledge is important, but personality and approach matter just as much at Sunrise Vista.

We need someone who is compassionate, patient, kind, professional, and dependable.

You should be comfortable working with SMI residents and individuals from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and consistently applying property policies.

We are looking for someone who can listen, de-escalate difficult situations, communicate respectfully, and treat every resident with dignity while still holding residents accountable to lease and community requirements.

Be Part of a Strong Onsite Team

You will not be doing this alone.

Sunrise Vista has an established onsite office and maintenance team, and we are looking for an Assistant Community Manager who wants to become an important part of that team.

We want someone who communicates, collaborates, supports their coworkers, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and understands that successful property operations require the entire team working toward the same goals.

You should come to work with a vision for helping Sunrise Vista succeed-not simply completing a list of daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include assisting the Community Manager with:

  • Daily property operationsย
  • Resident relations and customer serviceย
  • Leasing and occupancyย
  • HUD, Section 8/voucher, and LIHTC complianceย
  • Certifications and recertificationsย
  • Rent collection and delinquency follow-upย
  • Resident file documentation and complianceย
  • Coordination with the maintenance teamย
  • Property and unit inspectionsย
  • Resident notices and correspondenceย
  • Reporting and property management system documentationย
  • Supporting overall property performance and company goalsย

The Assistant Community Manager will also be expected to step in and support property operations when the Community Manager is unavailable.

ย What Celtic Property Management Has to Offer

At Celtic Property Management, we recognize that our employees are the foundation of our success. We offer a supportive environment where experienced property management professionals can make an impact, grow their careers, and be part of a team committed to providing quality housing and service to our residents.

As a member of the Celtic team, you can expect:

  • Competitive compensationย
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options, paid group term life insurance
  • Paid time off and 11 paid holidaysย
  • Employee referral bonus opportunitiesย
  • Training and professional development opportunitiesย
  • Opportunities for career growth and advancementย
  • A collaborative onsite and corporate support teamย
  • The opportunity to work for a growing property management organizationย
  • A workplace where your experience, ideas, and contributions are valued

Why Celtic Property Management?

At Celtic Property Management, we believe successful communities are built by strong teams. We value employees who take ownership, support one another, care about their residents, and want to grow with the company.

If you have the affordable housing knowledge, property management experience, and most importantly the patience and compassion to serve the Sunrise Vista community, we would like to hear from you.

Apply today and tell us about your HUD, Section 8/voucher, LIHTC/Tax Credit, and affordable housing experience.
