Job description

Summary 

Primarily responsible for providing technical support in the development/design of assigned engineering projects. This position will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. This position will work directly under the supervision of a registered professional engineer.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard industry techniques and procedures to perform tasks for grading, drainage, sanitary sewer, water, utilities, roadway, and/or site development
  • Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for nonroutine aspects of assignments
  • Performs moderate design tasks (i.e., corridor concepts, alignments, assemblies, profiles, cross sections)
  • Initiates putting together and/or edits specifications
  • Performs research and investigations
  • Prepares portions of project documents
  • Manages time on project work according to directives from supervisors and Project Engineers/Project Managers and remains communicative and responsive throughout
  • Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with entry-level engineers, technicians, or administrative staff
  • Assists in determining schedule and budget requirements
  • Assists with client, customer, or official contacts and communication pertaining to technical questions and/or specific assignments or meetings (i.e., can draft communications from PE to client)

Job Requirements

  • 2-3 years’ experience
  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited university
  • EIT Certification • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings and documents
  • Basic familiarity with project life cycle (construction cost, manhour estimates, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • General knowledge of all applicable computer software for Engineering discipline and Microsoft Office Suite applications (esp. AutoCAD Civil 3D, Outlook, Teams, Excel). Familiarity with drainage design software per application in at least four applications
  • Flexibility and time management to work on concurrent projects under deadlines
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
