The Opportunity
When you join Smurfit Westrock, you will be joining a team that creates sustainable paper and packaging solutions that help move the world forward. In this role, you will support the continuous operation of the Demopolis Solid Bleached Sulfate (SBS) Paperboard Mill by helping ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production. You will work closely with operations, maintenance, and support teams to maintain quality standards, maximize production performance, and protect critical equipment assets. You will play an important role in supporting operational excellence, preserving equipment reliability, and contributing to the successful 24/7 operation of the mill.
How You Will Make an Impact
  • Work collaboratively as a member of the machine, finishing, recovery, or pulp crew to safely produce high-quality SBS paperboard that meets customer and operational requirements.
  • Operate and maintain equipment in accordance with established procedures, operating standards, and safety requirements to support reliable and efficient production.
  • Follow all company policies, work methods, and safety practices to maintain a safe work environment and achieve production and quality goals.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot equipment and process performance to identify issues, support problem resolution, and contribute to continuous operational improvement.
  • Develop skills and expertise by training on multiple job assignments and advancing qualifications through demonstrated ability and seniority.
  • Support operational excellence by preserving equipment reliability, maintaining housekeeping standards, and protecting mill assets.
  • Engage in safety initiatives by participating in safety meetings, identifying improvement opportunities, and contributing to a strong safety culture.
  • Contribute to team success by communicating effectively, supporting coworkers, and helping achieve departmental production, quality, and performance objectives.

What You Need to Succeed
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise maneuver up to 50 pounds on a routine basis.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and twist throughout a work shift.
  • Ability to work in environments with prolonged exposure to varying and extreme temperatures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing or industrial experience.
  • Demonstrated history of reliable employment and strong work performance.
  • Experience working safely and effectively in a team-based production environment.
  • Experience operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting manufacturing equipment and processes.
