Join the Infrared Radiation Effects Laboratory (IRREL) at BAE Systems, Inc. within the Space & Mission Systems (SMS) Sector.
In this role you'll work closely with engineers to develop and assemble test hardware that ensures state-of-the-art electronic devices perform flawlessly under radiation and cryogenic environments. The Ground Systems & Services (GSS) Strategic Business Unit is responsible for driving business growth in the ground systems development, operations & sustainment, and technical services markets. This business unit focuses on designing, building and integrating ground systems in support of air and space-based assets, providing operational support for mission platforms and instruments and offering scientific and engineering expertise to our customers.

What You'll Do:
  • Perform support of remote experiments approximately six times per year. Experiment duration are approximately 7 days in duration and require extended work hours.
  • Build or process hardware for developmental electronic devices using standard laboratory equipment and tools.
  • Troubleshoot hardware or assemblies; check and modify test fixtures.
  • Maintain required electronic build records and process logs, records, and reports in accordance with BAE Systems SMS policies/procedures and government regulations.
  • Implement EHS processes and procedures; recognize safety hazards, including hazardous materials, and pursue corrective action when necessary.
  • Perform logistical support of experimental operations by loading/unloading experimental trailers, assisting in transporting experimental trailers to remote locations.
  • Provide lab support for in-house and on-site testing.
  • Provide lab support for equipment upgrades.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 3 or more years of related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Bachelor's or Master's, may substitute for two years of related experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Experience with electrical & mechanical fabrication as well as soldering is required.
  • Effective in multi-disciplinary teamwork environment with broad responsibilities and minimal oversight.
  • Prior experience working in a lab environment.

As this position requires operating a company vehicle, an offer and subsequent employment are contingent upon possessing and maintaining a valid US driver's license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $60016 - $96026

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
