Sheet Metal Fabricator

Fabrication & Manufacturing Division

Reports To: Operations Manager

Location: Fabrication Shop: 3385 N Nevada St., Chandler, AZ 85225 - Corporate Office: 303 W Elliott Rd, Ste. 101, Tempe, AZ 85284

Compensation: $23.00 – $30.00 hourly, pay rate determined in interview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sheet Metal Fabricator learns, assists, and assembles in Tempe Mechanical's sheet metal building shop, helping build sheet metal designs for HVAC projects across the valley. Work produced in this role goes into buildings such as hospitals, schools, fire stations, and government buildings. This is an entry-level role that does not require extensive previous experience or knowledge.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Fabrication, Assembly & Production Support

  • Fabricate high-precision, commercial-grade sheet metal components - including ductwork, fittings, transitions, and complex custom assemblies - based on engineered drawings and project specifications.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust fabrication equipment such as CNC plasma tables, press brakes, shears, rollers, and lock-forming machinery to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and repeatability.
  • Execute fabrication work in alignment with production schedules to support commercial construction and service timelines, adapting to shifting priorities as required.

Quality Control & Documentation

  • Perform dimensional verification and tolerance checks to ensure fabricated components meet design and project requirements prior to release.
  • Maintain accurate production records, material usage tracking, and quality documentation to support accountability and traceability.
  • Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve fabrication issues, material inconsistencies, or drawing discrepancies to prevent downstream rework.

Material Handling & Workflow Coordination

  • Stage, organize, and prepare completed ductwork and fabricated materials for efficient transport to commercial job sites.
  • Collaborate with project managers, shop leadership, and field installation teams to prioritize workloads and address time-sensitive fabrication needs.
  • Support continuous workflow coordination between fabrication, warehouse, and delivery operations to optimize throughput and minimize delays.

Equipment Care & Safety Compliance

  • Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of fabrication equipment and hand tools to ensure operational reliability.
  • Maintain strict compliance with shop safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and company quality standards.
  • Promptly report equipment concerns, safety risks, or process improvement opportunities to shop leadership.

Shop & Team Support

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional fabrication environment that supports efficiency and safety.
  • Assist with material inventory management, stock organization, and replenishment efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior fabricators as needed and contribute to continuous improvement and best-practice initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-7 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication.
