Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

A large utility company is seeing a Power Systems Engineer to work onsite in Roanoke VA for a year long contract with possibility of conversion. This Engineer will be responsible for conducting pre- and post-energization reviews, maintaining asset data integrity, coordinating with field personnel, and ensuring all assets are properly documented and accounted for throughout the commissioning process. The ideal candidate will have experience in utility operations, asset management systems, and electrical infrastructure projects.



REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET* along with two or more years of related engineering experience.
- Knowledge of electric utility systems, substations, transmission, or distribution assets.
-Experience interpreting engineering drawings, electrical prints, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with asset management systems, databases, and reporting tools. (Excel, SharePoint, Power BI)
-Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.



NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Knowledge of utility operational practices and outage management processes.
- Familiarity with IPS, GIS, Maximo, SAP, or similar utility asset management platforms.
- Experience working directly with field operations and maintenance personnel.


Job Summary:
Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. Be responsible for performing pre- and post-energization reviews.
Perform pre- and post-energization reviews.
Monitor Power BI data for projects three weeks from energization.
Utilize prints, outage request data, attestation reports and asset database.
Utilize proposed energization dates to review assets that are scheduled to go in service.
Ensure that the station assets have been properly attested to before going in service.
Monitor the IPS asset database to ensure all assets scheduled to go in service are documented.
Monitor the IPS asset database after energization to ensure asset status reflects โ€œIn Service.โ€
Mark assets in IPS asset database that should have been removed as โ€œRetired.โ€
Verify with field personnel that assets have been removed from the station .
Discard assets from IPS asset database, if assets have been removed from station.
Document reviews in SharePoint.
Work effectively with other team members.
