Job description

Petroleum Engineer – Entry Level

Chevron is a leading integrated energy company focused on rethinking energy for the future. We are recruiting entry‑level Petroleum Engineers for the 2026‑2027 recruiting season, with potential positions in Houston, Texas; Midland, Texas; Greeley, Colorado; Minot, North Dakota; Covington, Louisiana; Bakersfield, California.

Responsibilities
  • Develop technical skills in production and reservoir engineering assignments focused on asset development planning, production operations, reserves, uncertainty and risk management, and capital project development.
  • Contribute to production and reservoir engineering projects that add value to Chevron.
  • Work across multidisciplinary teams including petroleum engineers, geologists, geophysicists, facility engineers, drilling and completion engineers, data scientists, and/or software developers.
  • Apply cutting‑edge digital technologies and techniques to solve technically challenging problems.
  • Support assignment mobility and participation in a range of projects at various U.S. locations.
  • Participate in a structured early‑career development program that may include technical assignments, comprehensive training, mentoring, and on‑the‑job experience.
Qualifications

Required

  • Students completing the last year of a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, or related disciplines with less than two years of directly related work experience.
  • Strong academic performance in core programs and excellent communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate and adhere to The Chevron Way.
  • Must be willing to drive on a routine basis.

Preferred

  • Students completing the last year of a master’s or doctoral program, or with less than two years post‑graduate experience in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Experience in research, technology development, consulting, or participation in industry or university research projects.
  • Previous internship experience with an integrated oil or international service company.
Compensation & Benefits

Anticipated salary range: $118,000 – $138,000 per year. Compensation determined based on role, degree level, and academic year.

Intern benefits include furnished housing, participation in an Employee Savings Investment Plan with immediate vesting, flexible work schedules, paid holidays, and a full year of service credit for internship completion. Full‑time new graduates receive competitive pay and benefits including healthcare, time off, retirement plans, and development opportunities.
