What is an entry level plumber?

Entry level plumbers are individuals who are new to the plumbing trade, typically starting out as apprentices or helpers. They assist experienced plumbers with installing, repairing, and maintaining piping systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. Their duties often include preparing tools, measuring and cutting pipes, and learning about plumbing codes and safety procedures. With on-the-job training and sometimes classroom instruction, entry level plumbers gain the skills and experience needed to advance in their careers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level plumber, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Plumber, you need a basic understanding of plumbing systems, manual dexterity, and a high school diploma or equivalent, with some roles requiring completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training. Familiarity with hand and power tools, pipe fitting techniques, and basic safety protocols is important, and obtaining an apprentice plumber license may be required in some regions. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and good communication skills help you work efficiently with clients and team members. These competencies ensure safe, effective installation and repair of plumbing systems, supporting customer satisfaction and career advancement.

What are some typical challenges faced by entry level plumbers during their first year on the job?

Entry level plumbers often encounter challenges such as adapting to physically demanding work, learning to use specialized tools safely, and understanding local plumbing codes. Additionally, they may need to quickly develop effective communication skills to work alongside experienced plumbers, contractors, and clients. Over time, hands-on experience helps new plumbers become more confident in troubleshooting plumbing issues and managing time efficiently on job sites.

Commercial Equipment Installation Technician | $65,000–$75,000| Denver

Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM–3:30 PM | Full-Time

Auto-Chlor System is hiring a hands-on, mechanically experienced Installation Technician to install commercial dishwashing and sanitation equipment throughout the Denver market.

This is not an entry-level mechanical position. We will provide comprehensive training on our commercial dishwashing equipment, but we're looking for someone who already knows their way around hand and power tools, understands basic mechanical systems, and is comfortable troubleshooting problems in the field.

What You'll Do

You'll be the primary installer for the branch, working independently at customer locations to complete equipment installations ranging from smaller countertop units to larger commercial machines with conveyor attachments.

Responsibilities include:

  • Install commercial dishwashing and sanitation equipment at customer locations

  • Assemble, connect, adjust, and test equipment to ensure proper operation

  • Use hand and power tools to complete installations

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, plumbing, and basic electrical issues during installation

  • Determine solutions when an installation does not go exactly as planned

  • Work independently and manage installations from start to finish

  • Train restaurant and commercial kitchen staff on proper equipment operation

  • Explain basic equipment care, cleaning, startup, and shutdown procedures

  • Maintain a professional relationship with customers throughout the installation process

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who already has a strong mechanical foundation.

Strong backgrounds may include:

  • HVAC installation or service

  • Plumbing

  • Field service technician

  • Commercial equipment installation or repair

  • Industrial or mechanical maintenance

  • Millwright or mechanical construction

  • Automotive, diesel, marine, or equipment repair

You should already be comfortable with:

  • Hand and power tools

  • Mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostics

  • Installing, repairing, or maintaining equipment

  • Working independently without another technician beside you

  • Communicating with customers and explaining how equipment works

  • Lifting and maneuvering equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.

We will train you on our machines. You should already bring the mechanical foundation.

What You'll Receive
  • $27/hr., plus overtime and on-call pay

  • Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

  • First-year earnings approximately $65,000–$75,000

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k) with profit-sharing

  • Paid holidays and vacation

  • Career growth and advancement opportunities

Physical & Scheduling Requirements
  • Valid driver's license held for at least 3 years

  • Ability to lift and maneuver equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.

  • Ability to work in restaurant and commercial kitchen environments

  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation approximately one weekday per month and one weekend every six weeks

If you're already comfortable installing equipment, troubleshooting mechanical problems, and working with tools independently, we'll teach you everything you need to know about Auto-Chlor's equipment.
