What is an entry level plumber?

Entry level plumbers are individuals who are new to the plumbing trade, typically starting out as apprentices or helpers. They assist experienced plumbers with installing, repairing, and maintaining piping systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. Their duties often include preparing tools, measuring and cutting pipes, and learning about plumbing codes and safety procedures. With on-the-job training and sometimes classroom instruction, entry level plumbers gain the skills and experience needed to advance in their careers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level plumber, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Plumber, you need a basic understanding of plumbing systems, manual dexterity, and a high school diploma or equivalent, with some roles requiring completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training. Familiarity with hand and power tools, pipe fitting techniques, and basic safety protocols is important, and obtaining an apprentice plumber license may be required in some regions. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and good communication skills help you work efficiently with clients and team members. These competencies ensure safe, effective installation and repair of plumbing systems, supporting customer satisfaction and career advancement.

What are some typical challenges faced by entry level plumbers during their first year on the job?

Entry level plumbers often encounter challenges such as adapting to physically demanding work, learning to use specialized tools safely, and understanding local plumbing codes. Additionally, they may need to quickly develop effective communication skills to work alongside experienced plumbers, contractors, and clients. Over time, hands-on experience helps new plumbers become more confident in troubleshooting plumbing issues and managing time efficiently on job sites.

Job description

Residential Plumber (Service & Repair)
Union, NJ (serving most of New Jersey). Full-time. Take-home truck.

Join a family-owned, non-franchise home services company that has served most of New Jersey since 1994. We run residential plumbing service and repair in occupied homes, we over-invest in our people, and we hold to honest, repair-first service. We're hiring experienced service plumbers who take pride in running their own calls.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Start your day at home in a well-maintained company truck and head to your first call. Diagnose and repair residential plumbing: leaks, drains, fixtures, and water heaters including tankless. Explain repair and replacement options with the homeowner, without pressure, and complete clean, code-compliant work.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Solid residential plumbing service experience running your own calls (not entry-level). Comfort with complex jobs, not just basic repetitive work. Working knowledge of safety and local codes. A professional, repeatable in-home process. A valid driver's license with a clean, insurable record. In New Jersey a personal license is not required, though it is a plus, and candidates confidently pursuing licensure are welcome.

SCHEDULE
Full-time. Weekend on-call runs on a rotation that comes around roughly once a quarter. No Sundays.

COMPENSATION
Base pay ranges from $25 to $50 per hour depending on experience and level. On top of base, our performance pay lets strong technicians earn a share of their truck's weekly revenue, and high performers reach $100,000 to $200,000+ in total annual compensation. Our top performers are among the highest paid in the region.

BENEFITS
Take-home company truck and gas card. 100% paid health and dental. Deductible covered through an HRA card. A 401k retirement plan. Paid time off. Rewards for reviews and employee referrals. A dog-friendly office and an active community and charity program.

We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
