Job description

Job Title: Distribution Designer

Job Description

Join our dynamic team in Southfield as a Distribution Designer. Be part of establishing a new office space and work in a collaborative environment that offers flexibility for experienced individuals. This role involves both office and fieldwork, with a focus on designing and constructing electrical distribution systems.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems.
  • Review client-provided work and assess requirements of scopes.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, and voltage drop analysis.
  • Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post-construction reviews.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and apply engineering principles for mitigation.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements.
  • Develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
  • Work on permit development, easements, and right-of-way applications.

Essential Skills

  • At least an associate degree in a design-related field.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Basic utility knowledge.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a design role, preferably with Solidworks or similar design software.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in electric distribution design engineering with an electric utility or consulting company is preferred.
  • Open to entry-level candidates with relevant educational experience.

Work Environment

Work in a group collaboration environment within a newly established office in Southfield. The role involves a 50% split between office and fieldwork, with local travel up to an hour and a half.
