The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK) is recruiting for multiple Nursing Assistant 1 (Entry level) and Nursing Assistant 2 positions , to join our dedicated Nursing team. The Home is a 24/7/365 long-term care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional healthcare services to elderly or disabled veterans and spouses of veterans. Our facility is on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O'Lakes, off Highway 10, between Stevens Point and Appleton, Wisconsin.
This agency is committed to serving Wisconsin's veteran population. Our positions offer the satisfaction of serving those who have served us all.
Position Summary
Nursing Assistant 1: This is an entry level certified nursing assistant (CNA), or nursing assistant trainee. This position is responsible for providing direct and indirect basic nursing care, while following individual programs, for up to 60 geriatric, disabled and/or cognitively impaired members at the Wisconsin Veterans Home. Nursing care is provided in accordance with standards set by the American Nurses Association, gerontological nursing standards, federal, state, and VA regulations; the mission and philosophy and policies and procedures of the Wisconsin Veterans Home and Department of Veterans Affairs. The nursing assistant trainee participates in and is responsible for providing and maintaining appropriate programs of care, treatment, training and daily living for members in an assigned area or areas.
Entry level positions intended for underage applicants, age 16 or 17.

Nursing Assistant 2: This is objective level certified nursing assistant (CNA) work with responsibility for providing direct and indirect nursing care, while following individual programs, for up to 60 geriatric, disabled and/or cognitively impaired clients at the Wisconsin Veterans Home. Nursing care is provided in accordance with standards set down by the American Nurses Association, gerontological nursing standards, federal, state, VA regulations the mission and philosophy and policies and procedures of the Wisconsin Veterans Home and Department of Veterans Affairs.
Experienced level positions for applicants 18 years of age and older.

Salary Information
Starting wage for Nursing Assistant 1 LTE is $19.36 per hour, plus additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
Starting wage for Nursing Assistant 2 LTE is $26.34 per hour, plus additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
Nursing Assistant 1 LTE is in pay schedule-pay range 06-10. Nursing Assistant 2 LTE is in pay schedule-pay range 06-11. For current or eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at the time of hire.
Pay and hours expectations will follow all state and federal laws and regulations for minor employees.
This job does not offer employee benefits.
This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
Job Details
These are flexible part-time positions with the option to pick up additional hours as desired with no required overtime. Shifts are available AM, PM, NOC, holidays and weekends. Candidate preferences gathered at time of interview.
LTE jobs are limited to 1039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits.
Job duties require the ability to assist in patient mobility efforts, stand and/or walk up to 75% of eight-hour day to provide assessments, kneel, stoop, make visual observations, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, maintain hygiene, use special safety equipment, and wear protective clothing.
These requirements cover the major and essential functions of the position but are not necessarily representative of all duties which this position may be assigned to perform.
Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants must hold certification or eligibility for certification as a Wisconsin Nurse Aide and eligibility to work in a federally certified nursing home as a CNA.
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and certified at the time of hire.
In addition to the CNA requirement, minimally qualified applicants will have experience:
  • Providing basic patient care
  • Using professional communication
  • Medical recordkeeping
Well-qualified applicants will also provide details about their experience:
  • Maintaining equipment and inventory; and/or
  • Using computer programs; and/or
  • Performing safety and security duties; and/or
  • Providing advanced nursing care; and/or
  • Working as a CNA in a relevant setting (i.e., health care, geriatrics, 24/7 facility)
