Job description

Karman Space & Defense is a leader in the rapid design, development, and production of critical, next-generation system solutions that align with the U.S. Department of War and its allies’ core mission priorities, and meet the accelerating demand for access to space. Building on nearly 50 years of success, we deliver Payload & Protection Systems, Aero/Hydrodynamic Interstage Systems, and Propulsion & Launch Systems to more than 80 prime contractors supporting over 130 space and defense programs.

This role is part of our Space and Launch business, which has contributed to the nation’s space programs for decades by delivering complete solutions from concept to flight. We enable successful space operations with mission-critical technology supporting every step from first launch to final landing, including launch vehicle subsystems, propulsion systems, aerodynamic and interstage systems, and payload protection and deployment. Our high-performance solutions are engineered to operate in the most extreme environments and meet precise mission requirements.

This role supports the maintenance team by assisting with preventive maintenance activities, equipment upkeep, and facility support to ensure reliable operations. The Maintenance Helper contributes directly to production readiness by helping maintain tools, machinery, and work areas needed to achieve first-time quality and on-time delivery. The role also supports continuous improvement and quality management system (QMS) practices that help the team deliver safe, consistent, and dependable results.

Schedule

  • This position follows a 1st shift schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Supports preventive maintenance activities to help keep equipment in reliable operating condition.
  • Assists in maintaining the facility to ensure safe, clean, and organized work environments.
  • Helps maintain manufacturing equipment and tools to support production requirements.
  • Follows established procedures and policies to support quality objectives and customer satisfaction.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement efforts aligned with AS 9100 practices.
  • Supports general clean-up activities to uphold housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Understands how equipment or facility failures may impact customer products and quality outcomes.
  • Collaborates with internal teams to support maintenance needs and operational priorities.
  • Performs assigned tasks that support maintenance operations and departmental needs.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent in work experience.
  • Entry-level experience.
  • Ability to work with standard maintenance tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with management and staff.
  • Awareness of ethical conduct and ability to follow policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant standing, walking, or sitting for at least 8 hours.
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying up to 50 lbs, minimum 35 lbs.
  • Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
  • Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less; corrective lenses may be worn.
  • Prolonged periods of repetitive movement.
  • Constant holding, grasping, turning, or working with hands.
  • Occasional reaching overhead, at shoulder level, and below shoulder level.
  • The essential functions of this position must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
