Job description

We are looking for 2 Interns/Co-ops for the Spring 2027 semester who can work full-time, onsite, starting in January. This is an educational position, requiring basic knowledge and understanding of packaging and manufacturing industry and technical concepts. During the co-op you will collaborate to serve both internal and external customers of the company. Interface across various work areas and organizations to support the process of design, development, and analysis of Andis Packaging.

As a student, you will evaluate the customer’s needs and expectations for a packaging solution and gain experience with multiple materials and revenue streams. Assignments will include participation in cross-functional teams to cultivate packaging for projects within different stages of readiness.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Upholds Andis Core Values in all work-related activities.
  • Maintains open communication and build strong relationships with teams within and beyond engineering.
  • Designs consumer driven packing for manufacturability, inspect ability, and cost optimization.
  • Reviews and qualifies packaging dyeline files from external suppliers and printers.
  • Coordinates prototype models to evaluate new design concepts with suppliers.
  • Generates comprehensive protocols for analyzing and testing packaging.
  • Identifies, follows, and documents appropriate ISTA testing procedures.
  • Creates and revises component drawings as well as associating BOMs with most up to date specifications.
  • Manages the circulation of packaging documentation for various functional approvals.
  • Participates in project teams & assist in meeting stage gate deliverables.
  • Completes competitor benchmarks document current packaging data
  • Assists with production floor challenges as needed.

EXPECTED AREAS OF COMPETENCE:

  • Must have a positive attitude, great work ethic, & excellent communication skills as a supportive collaborator in team projects
  • Must have a basic understanding of materials, industrial packaging design and validation approaches.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, be self-driven and proactive.
  • Must have intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to self-regulate project timelines, successfully manage changes & enable on time delivery.
  • Ability to create drawings, build samples, and specifications for new structural packaging components.
  • Ability to perform & document quality assurance reviews for components & packaging.
  • Ability to calculate cost savings potential for projects

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidate must be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior in an accredited college or university for the duration of the assignment and pursuing a bachelor's degree in packaging engineering/science. Other majors with relevant packaging experience will be considered.
  • Completed entry-level & material classes in packaging.
  • Completion of Evaluation testing classes a plus
  • Basic understanding of principles of structural integrity & analysis to determine effects of loads on structures.
  • Previous experience or coursework in packaging preferred.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks, Artios, ArtiosCad, TOPs or similar design software
  • Excel (pivot tables, functions/formulas, filters, etc.) is our primary tool outside of the master system.
  • Must be able to commute to the work location daily.
