Job description

About the Role Working within the Cougars Athletics and Recreation, this is a flexible position whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week. Reporting to the Intramural Student Leader (ISL), the Intramural Official is a staff responsible for overall game management in conjunction with the scorekeepers during intramural matches, assisting in setup and takedown of the sport, managing teams and players throughout the game and creating a safe space for sport. Availability on weekday evenings is required.

While primarily located at MRU Recreation, hockey shifts operate at the Flames Community Arena and reliable transportation is required. Sports Areas: Basketball, Futsal, Hockey, or Volleyball (can be multiple sports depending on schedule, experience, and interest) Responsibilities Officiating Duties (80%) Ensure that the culture of CAR intramurals is one of inclusion, belonging, and respect for all participants and staff members Responsible for game management and maintenance of safety of any officiated intramural games Maintain appropriate and professional demeanor during all intramural games Responsible for upholding Intramural rules and regulations during all intramural games Handles disputes and conflict related to rule interpretation or player incidences Complete the appropriate reports as required General Duties (20%) Communicate with Intramural Student Leaders regarding league issues and concerns Assist with check-in of intramural participants prior to matches Act as Cougars Athletics and Recreation ambassadors by promoting intramurals Assist with setup and takedown of intramural facilities Participate in officials evaluations and develop competencies through goal setting Qualifications Required Skills: Must be willing to work as part of a team Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal skills Open attitude to working with a diverse population Ability to make quick informed decisions on the spot Extensive experience with the sport Preferred Skills: Current MRU students are preferred with University Students in general being our next preferred candidates Conflict resolution experience is an asset Any additional Scorekeeping, Officiating, or Coaching certifications or experience is considered an asset Required Certification: Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED (or the ability to obtain certification by first scheduled shift) We offer this internally at a discounted rate Preferred Certification: Sport Specific Certifications or 2+ years of experience with Post Secondary Intramurals We offer reimbursement for these certifications once hired and proof of completion is provided.
