Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Mechanic Engineer, you will operate and maintain stationary engines and mechanical equipment, including compressors, generators, and steam boilers, to provide essential utilities like light, heat, and power for our hospital.
Every day you will perform general maintenance (electrical, plumbing, equipment maintenance, safety testing), work under minimal supervision, and mentor/coach less experienced facilities staff, always providing excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.
To be successful in this role, you will possess expertise in operating and maintaining complex mechanical utility systems, strong general maintenance skills, and the ability to work independently while mentoring others, all while ensuring continuous utility provision and safety for the hospital.

  • Regularly starts, stops, and adjusts or regulates equipment as necessary to properly condition the facility.
  • Observes meters and gauges, manipulates valves and machinery to keep readings within the specified requirements.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment by using established departmental procedures, assuring minimized equipment failure.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints for installation of new equipment and repairs of existing equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning of boilers and central plant equipment on a daily basis.
  • Recognizes and corrects unsafe practices and conditions as needed.
Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Two (2) years minimum experience in maintenance, operation and repair of building mechanical systems; including but not limited to boilers, liquid chillers, pumps, fans and air handling units, heat exchangers, and ancillary equipment
  • Knowledge with medical gas systems including medical air pumps, medical vacuum pumps, bulk oxygen, nitrous oxide and nitrogen and backup systems
  • Knowledge with Building Automation Systems and Computerized Maintenance Management systems
  • Valid state of employment driver's license

Preferred

  • Technical degree/certificate in a facilities related field
  • Hospital facilities or healthcare construction experience
  • Stationary Engineer, Boiler Operator Class A & B, CFC and/or Journeyman certification
