Nuclear Instrumentation Procurement Specialist

Valar Atomics

Job description

About Valar Atomics

At Valar Atomics, we're redefining what's possible in energy. Our mission is to make clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable-unlocking abundant energy for industry, hydrogen, and next-generation manufacturing. We are a team of builders, engineers, and operators who believe nuclear energy should be fast to deploy, factory-made, and built for the real world. Our first pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah will demonstrate how advanced nuclear systems and fuel fabrication can power the future. Joining Valar Atomics means becoming part of a company where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level.

The Role

We're seeking a Nuclear Instrumentation Procurement Specialist with hands-on experience sourcing and managing neutron detection and radiation monitoring equipment for nuclear or high-reliability process environments. This role bridges engineering, vendors, and supply chain to ensure technically compliant, traceable, and schedule-aligned procurement of specialized nuclear instrumentation. You'll be a critical link between what our engineers design and what arrives on site ready for installation and acceptance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procure neutron detectors, radiation monitors, and associated electronics in support of nuclear and radiation-sensitive systems.
  • Evaluate technical specifications, drawings, and datasheets to ensure equipment meets design and regulatory requirements.
  • Interface with engineering teams to clarify requirements, substitutions, and technical equivalency.
  • Manage vendor communications, quotations, lead times, and compliance documentation.
  • Support QA, documentation, and traceability requirements for nuclear-grade and safety-related equipment.
  • Coordinate with logistics, inspection, and receiving to support timely delivery and acceptance.

You Will Be Successful in This Role If

  • You bring strong technical judgment to procurement decisions, understanding the equipment well enough to evaluate substitutions and equivalency rather than just routing requests.
  • You hold a high bar for documentation, traceability, and configuration control, recognizing that nuclear procurement records carry weight long after the parts arrive.
  • You communicate effectively with engineers, vendors, and supply chain partners, translating fluently between technical and commercial language.
  • You manage schedule and risk proactively, surfacing lead-time and compliance issues early rather than at delivery.
  • You stay organized and detail-oriented under competing priorities and shifting design requirements.
  • You take ownership of the end-to-end flow, from requirements clarification through receiving and acceptance.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience procuring nuclear instrumentation or radiation detection equipment.
  • Familiarity with neutron detectors, gamma detectors, radiation monitors, and associated signal processing hardware.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and nuclear procurement requirements.
  • Strong attention to documentation, traceability, and configuration control.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with products from Mirion, Exosens, and Photonis.
  • Experience supporting nuclear power, research reactors, or advanced reactor programs.
  • Exposure to nuclear QA programs and regulated procurement environments.

Equal Employment Opportunity Statement

Valar Atomics is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable law.

We are committed to providing a workplace free of discrimination and harassment and will provide reasonable accommodation as required by law.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (green card holder).
