Job description

We are currently searching for experienced Senior level and entry level CEI Inspectors to support our Southeast Region located in Atlanta, GA. The CEI Inspector roles supports Project Engineers and Project Administrators by performing roadway and bridge construction inspections, materials testing, and documentation to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications. The CEI Inspector oversees or conducts inspections of asphalt, concrete, structural components, traffic control, and erosion control measures, and may lead junior inspectors or manage smaller projects such as resurfacing, striping, safety, and bridge maintenance work. Responsibilities include field measurements, computations, reporting, and coordinating with the Project Administrator to ensure quality and progress throughout construction.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have at minimum, a High School Diploma or equivalent.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Making and checking construction related computations
  • Inspecting construction work and monitoring on-site activity
  • Conducting field tests, sampling materials, and verifying completed work meets plans, specs, and standards
  • Writes daily inspection reports, performs verification testing, and documents test results and observations
  • Assists in all types of record keeping and field measurements, as needed
  • Work is performed under the general supervision of the Project Administrator

What you need to have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in construction inspection, one (1) year of which shall have been in bridge and/or roadway construction
    OR
  • An Engineer Intern with a Civil Engineering Degree
  • Knowledge of GDOT specifications and standards and typical practices for highway construction.
  • Ability to read and comprehend roadway construction plans.
  • Have, or be able to earn, the following certifications: GDOT F/CON, GDOT WECS, GSWCC Level 1A, Advanced Traffic Control
  • Flexibility to work daytime shifts primarily, with occasional night and weekend shifts
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).
  • If applicable to the position, a post offer fit for duty evaluation to ensure the individual can safely perform the essential functions of the role.
