Position Description

The Simsei® Engineering Engineer plays a critical role in the design and development of new simulation products and sustaining and improvement manufacturing processes for Applied Medical’s Surgical Simulation products. This full-time, on-site position offers hands-on experience in a collaborative environment, where you will work closely with cross-functional teams to advance surgical training technologies. You will contribute to research and development, design and development, process development, optimization, and qualification activities that ensure high-quality simulation devices and components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop Simsei® Simulation products, including mechanical/electrical products and simulated tissue models.
  • Identify and implement improvements for devices, components, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Manage product development projects from concept through production release.
  • Communicate project updates to management and stakeholders.
  • Provide engineering support to cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, Procurement).
  • Perform sustaining engineering, analysis, evaluation, testing, and troubleshooting of devices, components, and processes.
  • Review and evaluate non-conforming materials and address customer feedback.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and update engineering documents such as manufacturing instructions, FMEA’s, drawings, and test methods.
  • Qualify new products, materials, processes, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Write test protocols and reports, collect and analyze data, and ensure compliance with design control procedures.

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent field.
  • At least two years of engineering experience in product development, manufacturing, sustaining engineering, or a related technical environment.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets, scheduling programs, word processing, and computer-aided design program, like SolidWorks.
  • Ability to meet all hospital credentialing requirements, which may include background check, drug screen and vaccinations.
  • Practical experience of a variety of materials and mechanical designs.
  • Execute tasks in cross-functional teams.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Technical aptitude and detail oriented.
  • Experience with technical writing.

Preferred
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Experience working in a regulated environment such as medical devices, biotechnology, or other quality-system–driven industries.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and quality standards, including FDA regulations and ISO quality systems.

The Simsei® Engineering team is responsible for the product development of Simsei® surgical simulation training systems. These systems encompass a wide range of products ranging from artificial tissues to electro-mechanical devices such as cameras. The Simsei® team takes the product from ideation all the way to production and continues to support the product through its entire life cycle. They ensure that the components and systems are designed and developed to meet the company's performance, quality, and cost requirements. This involves collaborating with team members from different backgrounds, such as chemistry, electrical, mechanical and software.
