Job description

Location: Centerville, OH
Schedule: Evening/Night Shift

Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with a leading healthcare laboratory seeking a Supervisor, Laboratory Operations to oversee evening and overnight laboratory operations at a regional hospital. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising technical and laboratory support staff while maintaining competency as a bench technologist.

The ideal candidate is an experienced laboratory professional with strong leadership skills who enjoys developing staff, improving workflows, and ensuring high-quality patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.

The Role You'll Play:
  • Supervise daily laboratory operations and workflow for technical and laboratory support staff during evening and overnight shifts.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members while promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Assist with scheduling, bench assignments, and staffing coverage to support operational needs.
  • Perform bench testing and maintain technical competency, including participation in weekend and holiday rotations.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives, process improvement efforts, and CAP inspection readiness.
  • Assist with staff onboarding, training, competency assessments, performance evaluations, and corrective action documentation.
  • Ensure timely completion of departmental documentation, including training records, timecards, competency checklists, and other compliance-related activities.
  • Help maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and document control processes.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory issues and collaborate with providers and internal teams to resolve operational challenges.
  • Promote a culture of safety while ensuring compliance with laboratory, regulatory, and organizational standards.
  • Participate in the education and training of laboratory staff and students as appropriate.

What You'll Bring:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related laboratory science field.
  • ASCP certification (MLT or MLS/MT) required.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory with demonstrated leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of clinical laboratory operations, quality systems, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to balance leadership responsibilities while remaining active on the laboratory bench.
  • Flexibility to support evening/night operations, including occasional meetings and weekend coverage.
  • Experience supporting CAP-accredited laboratories.
  • Previous experience with staff scheduling, competency assessments, and performance management.
  • Strong computer proficiency and experience working with laboratory information systems.
