Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately measure and record patient intake/output, vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure), height, and weight; report any abnormal or sudden changes.
  • Assist with specimen collection (stool, urine, sputum) and administer enemas under nurse supervision.
  • Document patient care activities, observations, and behavioral/condition changes according to established guidelines.
  • Safely position, lift, transfer, move, and assist patients with mobility and range-of-motion exercises using appropriate equipment.
  • Support patient care logistics by making beds and transporting patients via gurney or wheelchair.
  • Perform routine treatments as directed by licensed nursing staff.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-stocked environment while following infection control policies and communicating respectfully with patients and families.

Minimum Qualifications:

Prerequisite Qualifications Required for Nurse Aide Entry Level

  • Knowledge of: Personal hygiene and bodily care.
  • Ability to: Read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English; follow oral and written instructions precisely; get along well with others; acquire and demonstrate an attitude of respect toward patients with a variety of disabilities; retain emotional stability despite emotional and physical pressures; develop an appreciation of nursing and medical ethics.
  • Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.

Prerequisite Qualifications Required for Nurse Aide Full Performance Level

  • In addition to the Nurse Aide Entry Level Qualifications Required for the applicable work setting:
  • Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities: One (1) year of work experience in a health facility such as a hospital or similar medically oriented institution where the primary or basic objective was to observe and report on a variety of physical and/or mental symptoms and conditions and implement care and/or treatment procedures for a caseload of patients. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing skills (i.e., taking vital signs, measuring output, recognition of abnormal signs and symptoms, etc.); first aid; patient rights; universal precautions; infection control; body mechanics; principles of growth and development; purpose and benefits of activities of daily living (i.e., eating/feeding, providing fluids, bathing, dressing, etc.); purpose and benefits of restorative care (i.e., use and application of assistive devices, range of motion activities, etc.); basic medical and nursing terminology; and the ability to assist and participate in the activities of the treatment team; assess each patient’s age specific needs; and independently provide age specific direct personal care services to a caseload of patients.

Prerequisite Qualifications Required for Medical Assistant Entry Level

  • One year of work experience which involved independently observing and reporting a variety of physical and/or mental symptoms and conditions and implementing care and/or treatment procedures for a case load of patients.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of basic clinical skills (e.g., taking vital signs, measuring output, recognition of abnormal signs and symptoms, etc.); first aid; patients’ rights; universal precautions; infection control; body mechanics; basic medical terminology; and the ability to read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English; follow oral and written instructions precisely; and assist in providing paraprofessional nursing care to patient receiving care on an outpatient basis.
  • Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.

Prerequisite Qualifications Required for Medical Assistant Full Performance Level

  • In addition to the Entry Level Qualifications Required for the applicable work setting:
  • Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities: One year of progressively responsible work experience as a Medical Assistant in an Outpatient Clinic or similar health institution setting assisting professional licensed clinical staff in the provision of care to outpatient patients. Must have demonstrated knowledge of emergency medical practices, techniques and procedures; functional anatomy and human physiology.


Certifications:

  • Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA) from the National Healthcare Association (N.H.A.); Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT); or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) must be obtained at time of appointment.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements
