Job description

Description

Position Summary: The Machine Operator I set up, configures, operates, cleans and performs routine operational maintenance on, Respool, wire insulation taping, glass insulation wrapping, braiding machines, NEB and Wardwell's.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Reads and interprets specifications of work orders.
  • Monitors and adjusts machine controls to regulate process control parameters such as speed, tension, wire length, and spool size in accordance with verbal direction or process documentation, (work Instructions).
  • Detects product quality defects and reports findings
  • Places reel(s) of specified wire onto pay off spindle of machine (weighing up to 100lbs) and threads wire through feed rolls.
  • Starts machine and observes operation to assure machines are running properly.
  • Verifies wire sizes and calibrations using micrometer and Acromag.
  • Examines wire for visual conformance to specifications and removes defects or defective pieces.
  • Properly identifies and tags finished goods, records production data, and fills out associated production paperwork.
  • Maintains acceptable productivity levels according to established standards (KPI).
  • Follows correct operational routine maintenance and cleaning procedures on braider, Tapers, wrapping insulation machines and reloads insulating materials to insulate bare wire.
  • Practices good housekeeping and safety procedures and adheres to all company policies.
  • Practices 5S / Lean principles, follows safety procedures Using proper PPE and adheres to established quality policies
  • Responsible for assisting in the training of entry level operators after six months of service.
  • Trains on the following to progress to Machine Operator II (HH Arnolds, Binder oven, Entry Level Extruder)
  • Active engagement in daily LDM to help drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

Abilities/Skills Required:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management.
  • Ability to lift 35 Lbs. unassisted and up to 100 lbs. with lift device.
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Ability to use Hand tools correctly
  • Ability to lean, reach, kneel, and stand for long periods of time
  • Basic math skills are needed.
  • Knowledge of calibration metal types and color codes
  • Computer skills to effectively use Human Resource Information System and ability to utilize on-line training
  • Must be a good team player and can work with people of diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) preferred.
  • 3 + years previous machine operation experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Internal candidates must be in good company standings
