Position Summary: 

The NDT Level II Inspector is responsible for performing Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI) on aerospace components in accordance with NAS 410, Nadcap, customer specifications, and Magellan Aerospace procedures. The role requires independent execution of inspections, interpretation of results, accurate documentation, and support of continuous compliance with quality and safety standards.

Department: Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

Reports to:  NDT Supervisor / NDT Level III

The hourly range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00 per hour. 

Shift: Friday-Monday weekend shift (48 hrs, 32 hrs worked, 40 hrs paid)
Hours: Fri & Mon 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Sat & Sun 6 AM- 2:30 PM 

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform Magnetic Particle (MT) and Liquid Penetrant (PT) inspections in accordance with approved procedures, techniques/work instructions, route cards, and customer requirements.
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate NDT equipment and inspection systems per method-specific procedures and calibration standards.
  • Inspect production parts, interpret indications, and make accept/reject decisions in accordance with applicable acceptance criteria.
  • Accurately completes inspection documentation, route cards, logs, and reports; properly mark and stamp inspected parts.
  • Compare internal inspection results to applicable standards; support customer and third-party inspection approvals as required.
  • Maintain inspection equipment, supplies, and work areas; perform minor equipment maintenance and report issues promptly.
  • Support development and revision of inspection plans, procedures, techniques, and acceptance criteria under guidance of NDT Level III.
  • Assist with training and mentoring of NDT trainees and Level I personnel, as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with Nadcap, AS9100, customer, and internal quality requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Support internal and external audits and corrective action activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to reduce scrap, rework, and audit findings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support NDT operations.

Position Requirements:

Certification / Technical Requirements

  • NAS 410 NDT Level II certification in Magnetic Particle (MT) and/or Liquid Penetrant (PT) (ASNT-based certifications acceptable if meeting NAS 410 equivalency requirements).
  • Ability to provide documented training and experience records per NAS 410.
  • Knowledge of aerospace NDT standards, specifications, and acceptance criteria.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational, technical, or trade school training preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of industrial NDT experience preferred (aerospace strongly preferred).

Vision & Physical Requirements

  • Must pass vision examination in accordance with NAS 410, including:
    • Near vision: Jaeger J1 (or equivalent) at 12 inches, with or without correction.
    • Color vision: Ability to correctly identify applicable color standards (e.g., Ishihara plates).
  • Must pass a drug screening and background check for employment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs as required.
  • Must have good fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Basic math skills (fractions, decimals, measurements).
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Basic computer skills (inspection records, logs, MS Office preferred).
  • Professional interaction with customers, auditors, supervisors, and coworkers.

Quality & Compliance Expectations

  • Help ensure continued compliance with Nadcap, AS9100, and Magellan Operating Systems/customer requirements.
  • Contribute to minimizing customer complaints, audit findings, scrap, and rework.
  • Maintain exemplary attendance, conduct, and adherence to company policies.
