Summary:

This position supports safe and efficient railyard operations within an intermodal rail terminal. Employees will train in ground operations, hostler driving, and may have the opportunity to train as crane operators based on experience and availability.

Pay:

  • $20/Hour

Schedule:You must be open to either of these shift times as assigned.

  • 6am - 2pm
  • 2pm - 10pm
  • 10pm - 6am

Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Railyard Equipment Operator to support safe and efficient operations within an intermodal rail terminal.

Employees will begin training in the entry-level Ground position, assisting with the loading and unloading of cargo containers, directing crane operators, and preparing railcars by removing and installing IBC locks.

Once training is complete, employees will begin Hostler Driver training, which includes moving containers, chassis, and trailers throughout the yard safely and efficiently.

Based on experience and availability, employees may also have the opportunity to train as a Crane Operator, responsible for operating overhead or side-loader cranes to load and unload containers and trailers while following all safety procedures.

Duties

  • Operate yard trucks (hostler) to move trailers in and out of loading docks.
  • Load and unload freight using forklifts, side loaders, and order equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure that all equipment is operated safely and efficiently, adhering to company policies and OSHA guidelines.
  • Conduct routine inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Maintain a clean and organized rail yard area, ensuring that all materials are stored properly.
  • Assist with heavy lifting tasks as needed, ensuring that safety protocols are followed at all times.
  • Collaborate with rail road staff to ensure timely loading and unloading of goods.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in heavy equipment operation, particularly with forklifts and side loader.
  • Familiarity with railroad operations and intermodal transportation environment.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks as required by the job.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
  • Understanding of safety regulations, including OSHA standards related to intermodal transportation operations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Prior experience in a similar role is preferred but not mandatory.

Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Open availability to work: day, swing, night, weekends, and holidays
  • Must comply with established safety rules, policies, and procedures, including wearing required safety equipment
  • Documented successful completion of lawful post-offer, pre-employment checks including criminal background check and drug screening.
