Overview
TRC Environmental Corporation, Member of WSP, is seeking an early career, entry level geologist/hydrogeologist to join our growing Engineering, Construction and Remediation (ECR) Practice in Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will be a recent graduate or intern, motivated to begin a career in the site assessment and remediation field with a large and nationally recognized environmental consulting firm. Our office is located in the central business district of Chicago and provides a vibrant, dynamic, and fast-paced work environment with access to a broad spectrum of professional experiences, in a setting that thrives on teamwork.
Responsibilities
  • Implement site investigation/characterization and remedial action work plans, including but not limited to collection of soil, sediment, groundwater, soil vapor, indoor air, and surface water samples; logging of soil samples utilizing a standardized soil classification system; and preparation of daily field activity reports.
  • Assist with the preparation of draft reports, including generation of figures and tables.
  • Review and interpret laboratory analytical reports and evaluate data for contaminant fate and transport.
  • Conduct and evaluate data from slug tests and aquifer tests.
  • Assist with 3D data visualization and groundwater modeling.
  • Coordinate and provide oversight and direction to subcontractors including remedial contractors, drillers, geophysical surveyors, and analytical laboratories.
  • Perform Phase I ESAs.
  • Prepare and review draft proposals and cost estimates.
  • Prepare project Health and Safety Plans.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrates a willingness to perform technical writing and data analysis using knowledge of scientific principles and professional judgment.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and work ethic, with a desire for career growth.
  • Strong quality assurance/quality control skills and detail-oriented to perform self- checks of work for technical content.
  • Ability to schedule and manage project assignments concurrently.
  • Ability to work in both a collaborative team setting as well as individually. Some team members may be remote.
  • Strong working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications and other reporting and communication applications
  • Ability to work on evening or long-term field assignments (estimated time away from office estimated at 1 to 2 days per week on average).
  • Willingness to participate in health & safety training, medical monitoring, drug screening, and background checks as required by TRC and/or client requirements.

Required experience:
  • B.S. or B.A. in geology (M.S. preferred) with a designated geologic focus.
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record for business travel.
  • Transportation options for work in office and field.

Additional qualification (not required, but a plus):
  • Familiarity or experience with ArcView, GIS, CAD, Microsoft Access, Modflow and other groundwater flow / transport models, etc.
  • Previous experience as an intern with a consulting firm or within the environmental industry.
  • Previous completion of 40-hr HAZWOPER, 10-hr, or 30-hr Construction certification would be a plus.
  • Master's degree with focus in hydrogeology a plus.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
