About the Role:

As a Shift Manager at Sweat and Tonic, you'll be a pivotal operational leader responsible for maintaining our premium guest experience across all aspects of our facility. This position requires exceptional leadership skills to guide both Front-of-House (FOH) and Back-of-House (BOH) teams. This multifaceted role combines leadership, operational oversight, and guest service excellence. You'll manage daily operations, lead and develop staff, standardize procedures, resolve complex situations, and serve as the primary on-site decision-maker during your shifts. The ideal candidate excels in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates exceptional problem-solving abilities, and embodies our commitment to creating exceptional fitness and wellness experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as designated "keyholder" responsible for facility opening and closing procedures.
  • Oversee daily operations across FOH, BOH and Tonic Bar, ensuring all departments maintain excellent brand standards.
  • Play a crucial role in hiring and onboarding new team members.
  • Conduct training for new team members according to pre-determined brand standards which the Shift Manager will help establish.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating proficiency in all aspects of FOH, Tonic Bar, and back-of-house operations.
  • Resolve scheduling issues and secure shift coverage when necessary.
  • Handle challenging guest interactions effectively.
  • Manage tasks with attention to deadlines, exercising good judgment in recognizing and prioritizing essential assignments.
  • Plan shifts and delegate operational duties among team members.
  • Execute guest services according to standard operating procedures.
  • Handle account inquiries professionally via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Serve as the primary contact for guest recovery situations while on duty.
  • Safely de-escalate shoplifting and/or trespassing situations (formal training will be provided).
  • Troubleshoot A/V issues in fitness studios.
  • Provide detailed shift reports to the management team.
  • Attend monthly operations management meetings to collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives.

About You:

  • You have 1-2 years of experience in a supervisory role, ideally in the fitness, hospitality, or service industry.
  • You possess exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
  • You demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, especially when working independently under pressure.
  • You have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with guests and team members.
  • You exhibit a guest-centric mindset with a passion for delivering premium service experiences.
  • You maintain a calm, professional demeanour while handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are technically proficient with point-of-sale systems, scheduling software, and basic A/V troubleshooting.
  • You have a genuine interest in fitness and wellness, aligning with the Sweat and Tonic brand values.
  • You are detail-oriented with the ability to follow established procedures while adapting to unexpected situations.

This is a full-time, salary position with a flexible schedule that includes a mix of weekday and weekend shifts. Weekday shifts may fall between 5:30 AM and 10:30 PM, while weekend shifts may fall between 6:30 AM and 10:30 PM. Team members will be scheduled for a 40 hours per week, based on business needs and availability.

Compensation: Salary, based on scheduled hours worked.
